Job Summary

As a Kitchen Steward, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our kitchen facilities, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our meal preparation processes.

Your responsibilities will include maintaining kitchen equipment, washing dishes, managing inventory, and assisting the culinary team as needed.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen, including dishwashing, equipment cleaning, and general kitchen area cleaning.
  • Follow strict hygiene and safety standards to ensure a clean and safe working environment.
  • Assist in organizing and managing kitchen inventory, including food, cleaning supplies, and kitchen tools.
  • Monitor and report any maintenance or repair need for kitchen equipment and appliances.
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to support food preparation and cooking processes as required.
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of kitchen deliveries and ensure proper storage.
  • Dispose of kitchen waste and recycling materials in an environmentally responsible manner.
  • Comply with company policies and guidelines for food handling and safety.

Prerequisites:

Proven experience as a Kitchen Steward or in a similar role in a professional kitchen environment

  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation regulations.

Knowledge of kitchen equipment and tools

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and follow instructions

  • Physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects.

Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team

  • Valid food handling certification is a plus.

A proactive and responsible attitude towards cleanliness and hygiene

Working Conditions:

Work Environment:

The central kitchen is a fast-paced and high-stress environment, especially during peak meal production times. Stewards must be prepared to handle bulk cleaning of vessels and equipment during this time.

Physical Demands:


The role can be physically demanding, requiring standing for extended periods in water, lifting heavy pots and pans, and continuous repetitive tasks.

Proper footwear and protective clothing are essential for comfort and safety.

Safety Measures:

Adherence to strict safety and hygiene protocols is mandatory.

This includes the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves and aprons, as well as adherence to food safety guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of both staff and consumers.

The kitchen operates as a team, and communication and collaboration with other kitchen staff, including chefs, cooks, and kitchen assistants, are vital for a smooth workflow.

Temperature:


The Dishwashing may have fluctuating temperature as it involves working in water (hot and cold) for longer hours, so it's essential for stewards to be accustomed to working in a potentially mixed temperature environment.

Pressure:

The kitchen often experiences high-pressure situations, especially during meal plan delivery times or busy catering events. Stewards need to maintain focus, stay organized, and handle stress effectively to meet production goals.


Work Timings:


  • The business is operated on a 24/7 model, and it requires its employees to work in different shifts & on public holidays with a staggered weekly off, one day per week, The work schedule will be 9 hours with 1 hour coffee & lunch break.
  • Note: Shifts may vary depending on the company's production schedule, and Chef de Parties may be required to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Overtime and extended hours might be necessary during busier periods.
