  • Marine Environmental Scientist
  • Environmental Scientist that will support the Environmental Service Line to grow the business and deliver on the client contract requirements. Activities will include assisting with client scope definition, tendering, planning, design, engineering and execution of offshore projects. Shall maintain open and positive relationships with the commercial, legal and operations teams, other internal staff, clients, and external agents/authorities. Shall have track record with writing, delivering and coordinating environmental baseline study (EBS) and environmental impact assessment (EIA) activities and obtaining consenting / permitting from local authorities.

Job responsibilities:

  • Undertake and coordinate environmental baseline studies and prepare EBS and EIA reports.
  • Work with external agents and laboratories to obtain sample results in a timely manner.
  • Manage sample results and maintain internal databases of information.
  • Have knowledge and practical experience of equipment uses and limitations etc. in support of project and commercial endeavours (e.g. small boat operation, grab sampling / processing, drop down camera and ROV).
  • Ensure environmental considerations, principles and regulatory requirements are embedded into their activities and deliverables.
  • Satisfy environmental approval processes and schedules.
  • Adhere to processes and procedures for effective identification and control of environmental risks, such as Project Environment Strategy, Philosophies, Management Plan, Waste Minimization and Management Plans, Emission Inventory etc.
  • Support, facilitate, participate or provide competent environmental input in ENVIDs, HAZID's, HAZOP's, design reviews, gate reviews and /or other risk assessment throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Act as a point of contact and maintain a proactive approach with clients, regulators (Ministry of Environment (MoE)) and other external agents.
  • Prepare ITT, select and manage external consultants and specialists to assist in the development, compilation, preparation, timely submission, presentation and revision (as required).
  • Ability to write accurate technical reports and represent Fugro at meetings, conferences etc.
  • Ability to perform statistical analysis using PRIMER, SPSS etc.
  • Ability to use Geographical Information Systems (GIS) software packages (e.g., ArcView).
  • Demonstrate knowledge of marketing and business development.
  • Track record of writing commercial proposals and securing new work.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of client requirements.
  • Financial acumen to support project invoicing as well as to cost services and deliverables.
  • Knowledge and experience in risk mitigation and financially capturing them in assumptions and prices.
  • Adherence to QC/QA i.e. ensure all proposal components prepared are peer reviewed before being reviewed by manager.
  • Understanding of bid and project financials.
  • Awareness of deadlines and financial penalty clauses that may be in place.
  • Attention to detail.
  • You bring (qualifications & experience)
  • BSc or MSc in Marine/Environmental Management /Ecology/Engineering Sciences/Environmental Management.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in marine consultancy or similar role, more recently at a senior level.
  • Experience undertaking and coordinating EBS and ESIA within the UAE and internationally (preferably related to oil & gas industry).
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work to strict deadlines.
  • Willingness to take part in both coastal and offshore environmental field surveys.
  • Specialist knowledge or experience in an area of marine science.
  • Experience of working within environmental agencies/authorities.
  • Experience of gathering and handling marine environmental data.
  • Conversant with computer operation.
  • Fluency in speaking, reading and writing of the English language
