About Asad Ali Shaikh:
Asad holds extensive qualifications, including a Bachelor's in Petroleum & Natural Gas, a Master's in Environmental Engineering & Management, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Engineering from one of the world’s top universities Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. His education is further complemented by professional certifications and training, including ISO certifications, OHS certification, ADNOC WMS, and more. With over 10 years of experience across China, the UAE, and Pakistan, Asad has worked in diverse Environmental, Social, OHS, and research roles. He specializes in the oil & gas sector, renewable energy (wind and solar), and academic research.
Currently, he is affiliated with WKC Middle East Environment Consultancy, serving as an independent environmental consultant on UAE's key offshore the Hail and Ghasha Development Project, in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Previously, Asad played an important role in successful completion of the ADNOC offshore Dalma Gas Development Project and over 20 renewable energy (Wind & Solar) projects across the UAE and Pakistan. His key expertise includes Environmental management and compliance, Social, HSE management and compliance, Auditing and Inspection, Monitoring, EIA reports etc. As part of EPC and PMC, Asad has collaborated with leading international and regional organizations including the Environment Agency, Abu Dhabi (EAD), IFC, CDC, FMO (Dutch Entrepreneurial Development Bank), MASDAR, and ADNOC. He has played a vital role in ensuring project compliance with local environmental regulations and international sustainability standards.
Academically, Asad's research credentials include a focus on Air Pollution, especially trucking emissions along the flagship project of the Belt Road Initiative (BRI) China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) at multi-altitude routes, with fieldwork conducted at Himalayan altitudes. His research initiates the first-ever comprehensive study on trucking emission testing in Pakistan and pioneers the investigation into calculating emissions at notable high altitudes (~5,000m), atop the Himalayan Glaciers Karakoram Highway at the China-Pakistan border. This fieldwork, graciously supported by the Ministry of Climate Change Pakistan, the Ministry of Science and Technology Pakistan, and Tsinghua University endeavors to unveil critical data & insights related to high-altitude emissions.
This research, among others, has been published, with more in the pipeline. His proficiencies include report/research writing, data analytics, proofreading, and preparing/delivering impactful presentations.
