I am a professional geologist (geological scientist) with experience in a wide range of geological environments over more than 30 years. I have the ability to analyse and create solutions for complex geological situations.  I fully understand the economic context of mineral deposits and able to communicate the key features from operational site to the board room.  Able to make early project decisions to minimize risk exposure.  Developed the skills to lead integrated (multi-national) technical teams to successfully deliver results on time.  I have a flexible management style with strong support for team members.

Experience

I have worked on a variety of geological environments and mineralising systems and held senior professional appointments:

  • Senior Vice President to Ivanhoe Mines and its precursor in numerous African countries. 
  • Reviewed the gold mining potential of the Far Eastern Region of the Russian Federation for Gencor – that became BHP Billiton. 
  • Chief Operating Officer Genorah Resources (Pty) Ltd. Delivered 50 million ounces Au+3PGE and a successful Feasibility Study.
  • Consulted to major corporations:  Senior Consultant
  • Experience on wide range of of mineral commodities including:

Copper - Gold – Chrome – Iron Ore – Copper - Lithium - PGE mineralization

  • Registered as a Professional Natural Scientist with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions Act, 2003 (Act 27 of 2033).  Registration number 400123/89.
  • Qualified Competent Person with relation to all the mineral compliance acts and regulations. I have produced several competent persons reports upon request for parties and clients interested in mineral projects. 
  • Acted as an expert witness on major litigation between parties in the mining industry. Comfortable in working with legal teams

Education

Obtained the following formal / certified tertiary education qualifications:

M.Sc. in Geology 1985

Ph.D. in Geology 1991

Attended several courses in exploration methodology and strategies.
