About shamma abdulla:
I am currently pursuing a degree in Biology at Kean University, with a strong academic focus on marine life and environmental science. I hold certifications in Marine Biology and Life Support Systems (The Aquarium Vet), which have given me a solid foundation in aquatic animal husbandry, water chemistry, and system maintenance. These experiences have deepened my understanding of how to support healthy and sustainable aquarium environments.
In addition to my scientific training, I have a background in customer service, where I developed strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. Working directly with people has taught me the importance of professionalism, adaptability, and attention to detail — qualities that are equally valuable in animal care and public education settings.
My long-term goal is to apply my knowledge and practical skills in the aquarist field, contributing to marine animal care, education, and conservation. I am passionate about working hands-on with aquatic species while promoting awareness and respect for ocean ecosystems.
Experience
Dedicated and adaptable professional with extensive experience across customer service, education, hospitality, and diving operations, now pursuing a B.A. in Biology at Kean University. I hold certifications in Marine Biology and Life Support Systems (The Aquarium Vet), complemented by multiple PADI diving qualifications including Divemaster, Rescue Diver, and Emergency First Response.
Over the years, I have developed strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills through diverse roles in guest management and event operations at organizations such as Formula 1 Abu Dhabi, Expo 2020 Dubai, A2RL Abu Dhabi, and the IDC CIO Summit Atlantis. These positions strengthened my ability to work under pressure, manage logistics, and deliver exceptional service while maintaining attention to detail and safety.
My teaching experience at Step by Step Nursery further refined my interpersonal and educational abilities, allowing me to effectively engage with people of different ages and backgrounds — a valuable skill in public education and outreach within aquarium settings.
Additionally, my volunteer work at Emirates Park Zoo provided early exposure to animal care and guest education, where I guided visitors on proper animal interaction and welfare awareness. Combined with my Divemaster internship in Malapascua, Philippines, where I assisted instructors and managed dive logistics, these experiences strengthened my understanding of marine ecosystems, aquatic safety, and conservation practices.
My long-term goal is to apply my technical knowledge, diving expertise, and customer-focused background in the aquarist field, contributing to marine animal care, habitat maintenance, and public conservation education.
