Dear,

My name is Sonia Kasshanna. I am a Lebanese citizen living in Abu Dhabi with my husband and two sons. 

During my work on the research project for the master’s degree, I have submitted two published papers in coordination with Dr. Paul Rostron: advisor and assistant professor at the Petroleum Institute (Khalifa University). The first paper is titled “Novel Synthesis of Vegetable Oil Derived Corrosion Inhibitors” and is published in the International Journal of Corrosion and NACE Corrosion Journal in June 2015 – June 2016. The second paper is titled “Novel Synthesis and Characterization of Vegetable Oil Derived Corrosion Inhibitors” is published in the Journal of Materials and Environmental Science in October 2017. Working on this project enhanced my critical thinking, research, and technical skills. It exposed me to many companies and organizations. 

In addition to my education and research experience, I have many years of work experience in the industrial and educational field. As you may notice from my resume, I am currently working as a chemistry lecturer at the Emirates national school of Abu Dhabi since October 2018. My tasks include teaching and designing the curriculum, aligning the learning objectives with the standards, and revising the scope and sequence for all the units taught for grades 6 to12 American and British Curriculum. I was working as a chemistry teacher at ADNOC Schools for 8 years where I also taught American curriculum for different grade levels. My experience as a chemistry lecturer was always extended with curriculum development design, committees’ membership, professional development in addition to many other activities. Teaching different age levels increased my level of patience and sharpened my presentation and communication skills. In IB diploma program, we teach students all the concepts and fundamental principles of chemistry which include, but are not limited to chemical bonding, molecular structure, energetics and thermochemistry, kinetics, organic chemistry, ideal gas laws, acids and bases, equilibrium, redox process, stoichiometry relationships both SL and HL. In addition, we supervise our students in Internal Assessment project where students work on a mini research project under certain requirements and rubric and should be convenient for their level, safety, and the school laboratory capability. Working on a research project and supervising internal assessments have added invaluably to my knowledge and experience. It enhanced my teamwork, my ability to get over drawbacks and increased my passion of research education.

I am keen on the opportunities that will arise. Being a teacher for more than 10 years, and working with grade 12 students with different curriculum experience in addition to being a master’s degree graduate,  and based on the courses that I have learnt during my education and the courses that I have taught especially for grades 11 and 12, I believe that my teaching, my role in setting up the curriculum in addition to my role in student supervision and mentoring skills can be transferrable to the advisory level. 

Based on the above, in addition to my strong desire to help motivating the society to higher educational level, motivate me to apply to the position offered at your prestigious institute. I believe, with the education I have had and the experience, I collected over the last 10 years, I am ready for the challenge and confident of my abilities to succeed. 

I hold a bachelor’s degree in chemistry (January 2010) from the “Université Saint Esprit de Kaslik” in Lebanon and a master’s degree in Applied Chemistry (April 2016) from the Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi.
