Vishaka Karunathilake

I am an energetic and innovative Chemist with versatile knowledge and experience in wet chemistry and analytical chemistry. Aiming for an innovative, challenging and responsible career where there is a scope for upgrading knowledge and can take part in the growth of organization. Also, a very good team player and can work getting done as team, and I have exceptional talent to make important decisions in critical time with very good management practice.

As a chemist in the Saji’s Spring Water (Pvt) Limited in Sri Lanka, monitored quality assurance in water sample analysis according to ISO and government standards and prepared reagents, solutions and standards for assigned methods.

I was also able to work as a Valuer/Gemologist Assistant in the National Gem and Jewelry Authority. I worked with him while he introduced the spectroscopic techniques (FTIR, RAMAN) to identify gems. My main duties were to assist gem testing using FTIR and RAMAN and other gemological instruments and interpret data from EDXRF. This particular experience allowed me to get some hands-on experience with relationship between gemology and chemistry.

I was engaged as a research volunteer at Analytical Chemistry Laboratory in University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, and I was able to adaptable and flexible to the continuous changes associated with research demands. I was also responsible for calibrating, maintaining laboratory instruments, preparing of eluent, stock and standard solutions. I actively participated research activities of water purification by removal of heavy metals. 

As a research student  I actively participated researches  on pesticide residue level chemical analysis with Liquid Chromatography/Tandem Mass Spectrometry  and Gas Chromatography/ Mass Spectrometry in the chemical and microbiological lab at Industrial Technology Institute in Sri Lanka.
