    Job Purpose

    To manage and grow the corporate banking business in the UAE, covering all aspects related to the effective management of client relationships including, but not limited to, defining the overall business/origination strategy & appetite, inculcating the Network agenda as well as achieving sustainable growth in the China Coverage segment, embedding a strong risk management culture, improving the portfolio cross sell and diversifying the revenue base, building a performance driven work environment with a motivated and engaged team.

    Key Responsibilities

    Defining Corporate Banking Strategy

  • Refine and, if needed, re-define the wholesale banking strategy for UAE operations

  • Align approach with the organization's strategic intent and focus on priority areas including network connectivity, Inbound/Outbound flows, and China Coverage

  • Develop local business opportunities methodically in accordance with the appetite defined by the Board and Management

    • Asset Portfolio

  • Ensure effective and proactive monitoring and review of the loan portfolio in line with strategy

  • Deliver on the bank's budgeted period end asset portfolio metrics for businesses under supervision

    • Liability and Transactional Banking Initiatives

  • Define, implement and oversee an effective and sustainable liability strategy

  • Support asset growth with appropriate transactional banking initiatives to aid in effective portfolio rebalancing

  • Coordinate with relevant support functions to define the appropriate scale, opportunity, and delivery strategy for transactional banking products and services

    • Cross Sell

  • Achieve diversification in business flows and income sources

  • Embed cross-selling of wholesale banking products, services, and retail banking opportunities

  • Prioritize promoting the international network to position the organization as the bank of choice for target clients

    • Market Knowledge

  • Maintain strong understanding and knowledge of the market

  • Identify opportunities and external threats to ensure appropriate reactions to changing market dynamics

  • Assist in positioning and projecting the organization in the markets with all stakeholders as the senior most origination and business leader in the UAE

    • Portfolio Management

  • Implement a strong portfolio management culture aligned with Group expectations

  • Develop/implement a robust, proactive, and forward-looking early warning system

  • Preempt potential signs of distress or deterioration in the credit portfolio

  • Monitor and track balance sheet and P&L of businesses under responsibility

  • Highlight adverse variations against plans/forecasts/budgets proactively

  • Institute necessary rectification plans as needed

    • Risk Management & Compliance

  • Maintain strong risk management aptitude

  • Ensure adherence to all risk management parameters defined by the Board-mandated risk appetite statement

  • Refine and improve risk management parameters to ensure business growth within acceptable thresholds

  • Lead from the front as a senior member of the first line of defense

  • Ensure strict compliance with bank policies/procedures, regulatory guidelines, and industry best practices

  • Take ownership for ensuring all direct reports adhere to highest compliance standards

    • Customer Service

  • Maintain high standards of customer service across all business areas

  • Design and deliver banking products and services with customers' needs in mind

  • Focus on long-term relationship building and customer satisfaction

    • People Agenda

  • Manage and develop a high-performing team aligned with the bank's strategic intent

  • Ensure best-in-class capabilities with adequate succession planning

  • Foster a motivated and engaged team environment

    • Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: University degree required, preferably a Post Graduate degree in business, economics, accounting, or finance. Additional professional certifications valued.

  • Experience: 10-15 years of direct corporate banking and/or credit risk management experience

  • Skills: Demonstrated business and people management skills

  • Knowledge Areas: Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in wholesale banking functions such as transaction banking, cash management, trade finance, and/or investment banking
