    Job DescriptionThe Building Inspector is tasked with enforcing building codes and regulations by doing in-depth investigations and inspections.

    Attends construction meetings and other trainings to make sure that work is being done according to plans and codes, and to make sure that the work is being done properly.

    Instructs other contractors and city personnel on construction projects, providing guidance and mechanical incitement as needed.

    Participates in numerous training programs to remain informed of new trends in the construction industry, as well as inspection requirements that apply.

    To ensure compliance with construction laws, regulations, zoning restrictions and contract requirements for both residential and light commercial buildings. Mechanic, electrical, and plumbing issues are also checked by the technicians.

    Skills:


    The ability to get a provisional One and Two Family Dwelling Inspector license via the DBPR within ninety (90) days of hiring and convert to a regular license within the period necessary by the DBPR in order to stay employed.

    A thorough understanding of building construction materials and procedures, including how to spot potential flaws and infractions, is necessary.

    At the time of recruiting, candidates must possess a Certified Erosion and Sedimentation Control Lead certificate, or the ability to get one within six months of starting.

    Experience in a construction-related position, such as carpentry, that involves the interpretation of specifications/plans and the verification of conformity with local development and building standardsA high school diploma or GED, as well as five years of relevant job experience in the construction, plumbing, electrical, or a closely related industry, are usually needed to get the necessary knowledge and expertise.
