ABOUT THE ROLE:


The Corporate Technical Superintendent -Offshore is responsible for supporting the relevant Business Unit in budgeting, planning, executing Class Special Dry Docks/ CAPEX Projects and the effective management of breakdowns and repairs.


The position is also responsible for the monitoring of BU compliance with standardized procedures including docking repairs and technical projects in the Division.


Whilst this role is based at P&O Maritime Logistics Corporate office in Dubai the role will involve worldwide travel up to 50% of the time, which may be required at short notice and may involve extended periods, possibly up to 3 months overseas.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Technical

  • Supporting the relevant BU with:
  • Dockings, special surveys, upgrades, modifications, breakdowns, major accidents/Incidents, major engine overhauls and projects.
  • Supporting would include: providing overall technical support for any activities and ensuring on time and on budget completion.
  • In conjunction with BU technical personnel, prepare detailed and accurate project/job/docking specifications.
  • Liaise with Corporate Procurement regarding sourcing costeffective spare parts and ensure that they are at the worksite when required.
  • Travel to vessel or site to support above activities as and when required.
  • Manage the activities and involvement of support functions, including yard personnel, OEM service engineers, sub
- contractors and service providers.

  • Interact with BU offices to promote a good working relationship and provide effective communication and support.
  • Liaise with BU Heads and BU Technical Manager/Superintendents regarding any technical issue.
  • In conjunction with Group Insurance and Corporate Procurement, interact with Insurance Brokers and Underwriters to followup and report technical claims.
  • Support and be an active part of a technical investigation team to determine the effective root cause of technical breakdowns.

Planning and Cost Control

  • Monitor and manage the BU DD schedule, planning, and execution activities.
  • Have significant input into preparing project/docking/repair specifications, including liaising with Corporate Procurement to identify and source suitable vendors, services and equipment to support the activity.
  • In conjunction with Corporate Procurement, negotiate with equipment and material providers, suppliers, vendors, OEM's, and other service providers to optimize purchasing costs and ensure technical compatibility.
  • Oversee and have input into preparing tender documents, including establishing costs/budgets/programmes and being part of subsequent bid/tender evaluations.
  • Ensure regular feedback on docking/project costs and schedules and report deviations.
  • Contribute to the appraisal and selection of repair yards and technical service providers.

Reporting

  • Support the BU with written daily Project/Docking status reports, detailing activities, yard/contractor performance and recording any events which may be needed to support cost reductions and claims at a later date.
  • Ensure relevant vessel repair/docking information is updated in the NSE system.
  • Prepare reports as directed by ATM DD&R.

Planned Maintenance System (NSE)

  • Work closely with the Maintenance and Reliability team and BU to ensure that the work completed is accurately reflected in the company PMS (NSE)
  • Participate in periodic reviews and evaluations of the PMS to determine that it is being effectively utilized by the vessel crew and shore teams.

Other Functions

  • Understand internal and customer organization, assets, investment strategy, fleet operations and priorities.
  • Maintain high technical knowledge and ensure personal development through training and selfdevelopment.
  • Participate in annual review and evaluate projects to determine success and how improvements can be made in the future report and present findings.

QUALIFICATIION & EXPERIENCE

Qualifications:


  • Marine Engineering Class 1 Motor (Class 2 may be considered based upon experience).
  • Engineering/Naval Architecture degree.
  • Master of Engineering Sciences, Mechanics or Electromechanical Engineering.

Experience:


  • Sea experience as chief engineer on offshore support vessels.
  • Five years of shore experience as Technical/Dry Docking Superintendent.

Key attributes:


  • The ability to read and understand technical drawings, preferably in a design program (CAD)
  • Technical expertise in design, development and systems integration.
  • Experience and knowledge of major Class Societies requirements (ABS, DNV-GL, BV)
  • Indepth Planned Maintenance System knowledge (AMOS, NSE)
  • Indepth technical knowledge of offshore vessel drydocking.
  • Proficiency in Azeri, Russian, and Turkish, in addition to English proficiency, will be considered an advantage.
