Kitchen Steward Duties and Responsibilities

Objective of this role:


To perform and execute back of the house cleaning and sanitation duties and ensuring the highest standards of cleaning, hygiene, and sanitation at all times.

To ensure that our cafe's kitchen is always in excellent condition, Kitchen Stewards must take on the below array of duties and any other work requirements assigned by the Head Chef:

Remove Waste:

They must frequently empty trash bins, collect and remove waste from the floor and work surfaces, separate recyclables and properly dispose of grease.


Operate Kitchen Machines:

Ensure cleaning of all kitchen equipment as per the cleaning process using the right chemicals/ solutions at the right time.


  • Clean and Polish Cookware and Surfaces: This can include straightforward work, such as scrubbing debris off pots and wiping down counters, as well as work which requires more finesse and care, such as polishing silver cutlery and washing copper pans.

Organize Kitchen:

Must sort, organize, and store all utensils, cookware, and miscellaneous supplies so that they can be located with ease.

Proper organization is crucial to the smooth operation of a restaurant kitchen.

Stock Management:
Must be able to ensure the Stock is managed with precision and reported time to time.

Safety Protocols:
Hygiene, health, and Safety in our kitchen is our utmost priority. Ensuring the cleaning of ingredients and the machinery, utensils must be done as per SOP and process. Any roadblocks or work pending in this category is noncompromising for us.


Core skills preferred in our Stewards:

  • Must be able to communicate positively with colleagues and superiors to ensure effective teamwork and high morale
- in English (read, write and oral proficiency is a must).


  • Must be able to tackle repetitive and labour-intensive tasks with a positive attitude, maintain a consistent level of professionalism and be willing to learn. Must be hard working, trustworthy and detail oriented.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Great organizational skills
  • Ability to work while standing up and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting.
  • Punctual
  • Commitment to safety and security procedures
  • Enthusiasm for upholding hygiene standards
E Experience working in the food industry.

1 Experience operating commercial electric equipment.

**F Food hygiene certificates is a must

  • Basic Food Hygiene and Safety Training & Occupational Health Certificate.
