Job Description:


AECOM are expanding their team and looking to hire an
Associate - Urban Planner to sit within the Planning Team of the Urbanism + Planning practice line and lead strategy and innovation related to products, processes, standards and methodologies to achieve market, customer and industry goals.


Job Duties

  • Manages and lead medium sized projects including preparing and delivering planning deliverables independently with limited or no oversight, and with assistance from junior planners.
  • Ability to operate as a technical lead for various scale of master planning projects with a sound understanding of all relevant planning workstreams.
  • Has a strong capability to coordinate multiple disciplines and communicate such requirements.
  • Independently manage and negotiate with the client on deliverables to ensure alignment with contracted scopes by leading client and project meetings, articulating and defending the work undertaken.
  • Will lead client and project meetings, articulating and defending the work undertaken.
  • Develops project briefs in order to confirm client objectives.
  • Reviews and understands datasets to correlate population projections against market demands and supply.
  • Initiates and drives innovative approaches to efficient project delivery. e.g., improved site analysis assessment or site planning, due diligence and highlevel developer assessment.
  • Can structure and develop tailored planning guidelines and controls as per client requirements.
  • Has an ability to develop thought processes, criteria and methodologies for various type and scale of planning projects
  • Provide specific technical expertise in spatial planning, environmental and regional planning, developing governance and implementation strategies and make recommendations to clients where relevant.
  • Has excellent written and presentation skills in English/Arabic (preferred) with an ability to coordinate and develop a deliverable (report) as well as create a presentation and summary to support the deliverable.
  • Lead small to medium size proposals (both technical and commercial) and ensures high quality output including innovative ways to present
  • Analytical thinker and able to provide innovative approaches to various planning matters
  • Up to date with the current industry trends, approaches, tools and methods
  • Provides professional urban/environmental planning mentorship/guidance to junior staff members.
  • Leads specialty topics / interests in urban planning e.g., wellness planning / placemaking
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to clients and government (approving agencies) to advance approvals of development, Master Plans, Development Guidelines and policies.
  • Liaise with government agencies and other authorities as may be required regarding development objectives, policies and procedures

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in
    Urban Planning, Design, or Town Planning. Masters in one of these disciplines would be preferred.
  • RTPI (or any other planning association membership) would be advantageous.
Additional Information

Specific Skills Required

  • Experience working on a range of urban planning projects such as developing regional plans, city or national spatial strategies, comprehensive city plans and governance and implementation frameworks and action plans (one or more of these types of planning work).
  • Exceptional experience in preparing highquality, multidisciplinary written and illustrative planning principles, concepts, strategies, controls and guidelines.
  • Strong ability to write, refine and deliver final reports with regard to planning, urban design, governance and implementation projects.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to develop practical options and solutions.
  • Ability to structure, lead and participate in planning, urban design and development workshops as required
  • Ability to lead and manage complex, multidisciplinary projects to successful delivery of outcomes within budget and programme.
