Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.

Maintain nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.

Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Maintain a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods.

Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.

Knowledge of culturally relevant information is essential for delivery of competent nursing care Culture refers to knowledge, beliefs, behaviors, ideas, attitudes, values, habits, customs, languages, symbols, rituals, ceremonies, and practices that are unique to a particular group of people.

Remember that the setting for care is controlled by the client and family, not by the health care provider.
The nurse is often viewed as a guest by the client and family. Social chatter may be necessary to facilitate rapport.

The nurse must be nonjudgmental about the condition of the home (e.g., presence of clutter and disarray).Show respect and consideration for the client.

— Ask permission to use sink or bathroom to wash your hands. — Wipe your feet before entering the home. — Ask permission before moving client's belongings and replace items after you have finished the task.
