Job Purpose/Role

SettingCNC machines
 

• The CNCO must always aim to reduce setting time and scrapto the absolute minimum, whilst never compromising the safety ofpersonnel and equipment
  
  Toolpreparation
• Timeous preparation of all therequired tooling
  
  Commissioning CNCprograms
• Trial run each new program
• Prevent any form of machine collision
• Identify and correct inefficiencies such as incorrectfeeds and speeds
  
  CNC programadjustments
• Implement changes to the programto correct non-conformances
• Minimize thenumber of setting pieces, i.e. scrap
• Correctas many as possible non-conformances before cutting the nextpiece
  
  Obtain‘first-off” approval
• Minimize the number of pieces that are submitted for“first-off” approval (i.e. aim to obtainapproval on the first piece that is submitted to QC)
• Measure and correct as many features of the component asis possible
  
  Program/machineoptimization
• Continuously improve the processin order to:
  o Ensure the safety of plant andpersonnel
  o Ensure conformance to specification (i.e.quality)
  o Minimize cycle time
  o Maximizetool life
• This is typically achieved throughthe optimization of program parameters e.g. feeds, speeds andtooling
• It also involves the optimalutilization of the available Operators
  
  Surveillance of all activities on the shop-floor
• This requires that the CNCO spend the majority of histime on the shop-floor
• His aim must be tocontinuously improve all processes
• Ensurecorrect working practices
• Ability of operatingconventional machinery

Yourqualifications

• High School Diplomawith related training experience or equivalent combination ofexperience and education.
  
   
• 2-3 years mechanical assemblyexperience may be required
• Basic readingskills. Must be able to follow directions
• Goodcommunication skills
• Basic computer navigationand utilization skills
• Ability to perform workaccurately and thoroughly
• Ability to usethinking and reasoning to solve a problem and to think in such away as to produce a new concept or idea
• Highattention to detail and self-motivation skills
• Specific technical or vocational training orcertification may be required; may be required to pass rulertest
• Good communication skills inEnglish
