• Clinically manages all patientsunder his/her care in the Emergency Department;
• Provides medical direction and advice to on-shift EDphysician staff;
• Respond to all Code Bluecalls in the Emergency Department;
• Acts as atriage coordinator in multi-person/disaster cases;
• Provides clinical guidance, direction, and coordinationof activities for supportive care within the ED and for follow-upcare;
• Promotes and participates in ongoingeducation and training of all medical staff in the ED including theparticipation in hospital symposia and specialist meetings;
• Participates in department in-services and attendsstaff meetings;
• Manages the operations ofthe assigned clinical service(s)/program(s) within the ED;schedules and assigns staff reporting to him/her; coordinates andmanages the clinical practice and patient care activities;authorizes the reassignment of staff reporting to him/her withinand across clinical service/program areas of responsibility;responsible for creating master rotations;
•Works with the stakeholders to provide for sufficient qualifiedmedical staff with the professional skills and judgment to deliversafe patient care;
• Works with thestakeholders to ensure that space, facilities, equipment, andsupplies at the ED meet the professional, educational andadministrative needs;
• Manages assigned staffin accordance with professional standards, performance expectationsand current legislated/contractual obligations; promotes and/orprovides for cooperative working relationships, and a qualitypractice environment;
• Acts as a resource tothe leadership team in the area of specialization.
• Provides expert consultative advice to interdisciplinaryteam members as required;
• Supports thedevelopment of annual operating and capital equipment budgetforecasts for the assigned service area by the concerned financedepartments; monitors activities and ensures expenditures arewithin approved budgets; identifies efficiencies and promotesoptimal use of resources, making recommendations for current andfuture program and service adjustments;
•Monitors indicators and takes corrective action to ensure thatclinical programs and services continue to operate efficiently andeffectively; manage contracts for assigned programs andservices;
• Acts as an advocate for patientsand families; responds to identified issues; take a lead role incoordinating a complaint review/audit process to address concernsregarding patient care and processes;
•Participates in the development and maintenance of administrativeand clinical information systems; ensures contractual andgovernment reporting requirements are met;
•Ensures that professional practice and care standards aremaintained;
• Encourages medical research andevidence-based practice at the ED.
