Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed AlNahyan as a legacy of the late Sheikh Zayeds vision for the UnitedArab Emirates. HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan is the Rulersrepresentative in the Al Dhafra Region and Chairman ofEnvironmental Agency Abu Dhabi (EAD) Board of Directors.

Someof our flagship projects include marine conservation initiatives toprotect coral reefs and marine species wildlife conservationprograms focusing on endangered species such as Arabian oryx andsea turtles habitat restoration projects in critical ecosystems andsustainable development initiatives aimed at mitigating climatechange impacts and promoting ecofriendly practices across varioussectors.

    Job summary

    TheAssociate Head (AH) for the Conservation Unit will play a criticalrole in supporting the Chief Conservation Officer (CCO) inoverseeing project implementation as well as scaling up theconservation portfolio in line with the organizational strategyacross the following areas: nature and wildlife climate actiongreen economy and market transformation and food and watersecurity. The primary responsibilities of this position includessupporting the CCO in delivering tasks coordinating activities andtracking activities across the unit as needed by the CCO whichrelate to administrative and operational tasks project oversightdonor management and reporting stakeholder management andengagement monitoring and evaluation business development andfundraising and unitwide engagement and interaction. The positionwill require working closely with the project team to overseemonthly and quarterly progress review against set milestones andbudget management and ensuring donor requirements are met in atimely fashion and highquality standards

    Majorduties and Key Responsibilities

    Major tasks and responsibilitiesinclude but not limited to:

    • Strategy review and growth: Support the unit in delivering theconservation strategy by tracking progress and identifyingstrategic opportunities for growth in line with the organizationstrategy and UAE broader context. Support the director in chartingour new opportunities and supporting in developing the suggestedstaffing approach resource allocation budget and team developmentas needed and agreed with CCO.
    • Administrative& operational: Oversee the delivery of the unit workplansfinancial and operational requirements linked to project managementtools internal reporting development of PowerPoint presentationsand communication tools tracking finances updating budgets andscheduling support.
    • Project implementationoversight: Collaborate with project teams to ensure consistentprogress in project tracking budget management and financialreporting (monthly quarterly reviews).Check in with project teamsto identify upcoming areas of needed support by CCO and gatherinformation needed by CCO to report internally to management team.Support the Unit Director in overseeing the operationsimplementation and tracking of progress of conservationprojects.
    • Donor reporting: organizing donorcommunication reviewing donor reports and scheduling appropriatetimes for reporting needs. Prepare and/or review regular reports todonors the board and external stakeholders providing updates onproject status achievements and challenges.
    • Stakeholder management & engagement: support infacilitating preparing for and organizing stakeholder meetingswhich may include: briefing CCO on stakeholders and conductingbackground research developing PowerPoint presentationsfacilitating and coordinating the follow up tasks from meetingscoordinating and communicating with project teams on tasks planningfor next steps and setting up subsequent meetings.
    • Impact Monitoring: Follow monitoring and evaluationprocesses to measure and report project success against impactrefine existing process and implement it in ways to allow strategicoversight of project implementation. This may include: setting upcoordinating and facilitating regular team engagements onmonitoring and evaluation to increase communication on progresstowards objectives and track areas improvement challenges and nextsteps. Work with CCO to identify new opportunities to broaden /strengthen the conservation impact.
    • Businessdevelopment: Work with relevant internal stakeholders to coordinateand develop proposals for donors. Ensure regular and appropriatecommunication with fundraising opportunities tracking themconsistently on project management platforms used by organization.Research new leads and potential funding opportunities usingnetwork or desktop research. Work with the BD and marketing teamstowards individual donations metrics campaign messaging in liaisonwith technical leads.
    • Networking &Outreach: proactively identify opportunities for CCO to be presentin conferences and speaking opportunities that raises awareness onthe conservation and climate portfolio of work being implemented byENWWF. Track leads and stakeholders through project managementtools to help track and identify next steps with each withCCO.
    • Miscellaneous: Stay updated on the latesttrends research and best practices in conservation to contribute tothe continuous improvement of the organizations conservationefforts. Be proactive in evaluating the trends in the UAE andglobally to support the technical and business development effortsof the conservation unit including the identification of potentialfunding opportunities and the development of proposals. Identifyopportunities to improve internal communication and informationsharing.
    • Team building: support in identifyingopportunities for unit team building and support in organizingdelivering and following up on activities and needs of unit.Provide guidance and support to team members promoting acollaborative and highperformance work environment. Collaboratewith internal teams to build and maintain strong relationshipsensuring effective communication and coordination internally acrossprojects and units.

    Requiredqualifications

    • Minimum of twelve (12) years ofproven track record in environmental management corporatesustainability nature conservation or relevant coordination andleadership roles relevant to the sector.
    • Masters degree in environmental management/science orconservation biology
    • Fluent in English(written/spoken) Arabic is preferable.
    • Highlevel of cultural sensitivity and awareness with ability to work ina multicultural setting.
    • High emotionalintelligence when working with team and cross functionally and theability to perform and communicate effectively in challengingsituations.
    • Proven experience in leading teamsand fostering a collaborative working environment.
    • Proven knowledge and or experience in the nonforprofitsector preferably of environmental nongovernmentorganizations.
