About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to become an instrumental member of our 'Outstanding' JPS Connect department. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated 'Outstanding' teacher to lead the JPS Inclusion department from September 2023.


You will lead and manage the strategic development of the whole school's Inclusion practices and its staff, including all Special Educational Needs and/or Disability (SEN/D) provision, English Language Learning programme, Gifted and Talented identification and provision and management of pastoral care and Wellbeing, as well as having an oversight of the day-to-day operation of the Inclusion policy.


Key Responsibilities:


  • To implement the school's 'Aims and Values' and contribute to the ethos of the school with regard to inclusion, wellbeing and safeguarding
  • Develop and implement an Inclusion Action Plan, inline with the School Development Plan (SDP)
  • Ensure that all students who have potential barriers to learning are appropriately assessed
  • Ensure the progress of students (SEND, ELL, G&T and other vulnerable groups) is inline or above expectations by collecting, tracking and analysing data, using it to explain trends and outliers and deciding next steps
  • Lead on the implementation and management of effective processes for monitoring, evaluating and developing provision (policies)
  • Support the Admissions Department
  • Effectively manage staff and resources to meet changing student needs
  • Liaise closely with the school wellbeing team to ensure a coordinated approach to students' needs
  • Line manage designated staff
  • Develop and enhance the teaching practice of staff within the Inclusion department
  • Liaise with external specialists
  • Organise and/or lead staff training to help teachers better support those students who have SEND or additional needs (general and specific CPD)
  • Write reports about students and their needs, as required
  • Promote and foster constructive home/school partnerships
  • Attend Parents' Meetings and liaise with parents on an informal basis, where appropriate
  • Feedback assessment results to parents
  • Chair Team Around the Child and/or IEP meetings with parents
  • Maintain the SEND register in accordance with DSIB categorisation
  • Confidentially distribute/integrate/file all reports from external specialists with relevant personnel
  • Maintain student logs, detailing meetings
  • Manage Seesaw communications
  • Manage LSA target monitoring records and case studies
  • Maintain and develop a positive working relationship with all members of staff
  • Attend/deliver INSET and liaise and cooperate with colleagues on whole school matters
  • Share responsibility with all colleagues for the students' pastoral care and safety, including duties in accordance with prepared rotas
  • Demonstrate a commitment to personal, professional development
  • Show commitment to and cooperate in the process of Performance Management/Appraisal/QA
  • Promote JPS to existing and prospective parents and students
  • Carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required by the Principal

The following list provide the Essential characteristics, skills, qualities and experience for the role:

  • Degree from a reputable University with a relevant teaching qualification
  • 2nd Degree/additional certificate related to SEN/D
  • SENCo qualification
  • Knowledge of the implications of the Code of Practice for Special Educational Needs for teaching and learning and the KHDA Dubai Inclusion Framework policies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of assessment for and of learning, as well as diagnostic tests
  • Knowledge and understanding of intervention strategies for a range of learning needs
  • Detailed understanding of dyscalculia in terms of a structured cumulative curriculum
  • A team player with sound interpersonal skills and sensitivity
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the development of literacy, numeracy and language acquisition
  • Knowledge of educational practice in the UAE and implications for school of the KHDA initiative for fully Inclusive schools
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality appropriate to the setting
  • Ability to use authority to positively enhance outcomes for students
  • Ability to operate effectively when working under pressure
  • Excellent communicator (written and verbal) with parents, students and colleagues
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to see the wider picture
  • A very good level of competence in ICT
