Role Overview:


The Technical Design Manager drives the technical realization of projects and administers the daily operations of the project design team. The role serves as a critical liaison between the project design team and project management, estimating, automation, production, senior management, and clients.

The Technical Design Manager will be accountable for the technical resource delivery at programme and project level.

Responsibilities:


Ø Originate preliminary technical solutions for each project requirement and brainstorm with the Project Design Leads to explore options and determine the preferred technical approaches

Ø Lead & provide technical support and ensure technical outputs meet the requirements of the Project as well as meeting project affordability within timescales agreed with the project team

Ø Red flag any current or potential design crisis as early as possible, so priorities can be rearranged to mitigate the impact

Ø Plan and deliver all technical aspects of the programme and projects, working with relevant parties to assist in the formation of a design strategy, ensuring that this is adhered to

Ø Collaborate with design team to develop drafting, calculation, documentation, and data storage standards that are consistent across the company

Ø Where utilized, ensure external design works are undertaken by suitably qualified and experienced teams

Ø Highlight significant scope changes to Project Management. Keep track of all scope changes and ensure that the change control process and technical query process are adhered to and communicated fully on all projects

Ø Work with relevant parties to monitor and report on the technical teams progress on all required deliverables

Ø Serve as primary team contact with third party engineers, while promoting direct collaboration with individual designers

Ø Lead detailed technical discussions. Take the lead in driving a culture of continuous improvement within the design team

Ø Oversee the big picture of each project to ensure the collaboration of individual element designers and integration of all parts to prevent scope voids or overlaps. Provide clear and concise information about any remaining risks which the operations team or end user will need to be aware of

Ø Review all design documentation for completeness, safety, reliability, manufacturability, and adherence to budget goals

Ø Adherence to all set deadline and completion of work to agreed standard

Ø Ensure the proper distribution of design documents to Production, Project management, Health & Safety, Third Party Engineers, and Client Staff.

Key Skills:


Ø Advanced knowledge of structural-mechanical manufacturing components and fabrication techniques

Ø Strong communication, team leadership, and interpersonal skills for a very collaborative workplace

Ø Solid computer proficiency in 3D CAD, REVIT, Sketcha, BIM and Microsoft Office

Ø Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, or Product Design, or equivalent industry experience commensurate with an advanced degree.

Ø Previous experience in a similar role

Ø Good team worker but able to exercise own judgement and work independently to make decisions

Ø Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate and integrate into a wide team

Ø Experience in managing stakeholders

Ø Ability to manage, motivate and inspire a team, and experience of mentoring and developing staff

Ø Ability to take responsibility and ownership

Ø Excellent prioritization and planning skills

Ø Ability to challenge
