Job Purpose:


Provide early intervention to promote the educational and social development and engagement of identified student under the direction and guidance of the Head of Inclusion and class teacher, in consultation with parents.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Provide support for individual student, within a group context or individually, both inside and outside the classroom, to enable them to fully participate in a range of activities during the school day.
  • Be pro-active in matters relating to health and safety.
  • Assist in the implementation of individual education programmes for individual student and help monitor their progress.
  • Support the individual student in relation to their additional support needs e.g. academic, emotional and behavioral difficulties and help to develop their social skills.
  • Assist class teachers with maintaining student records.
  • Prepare necessary resources to assist the identified students to access or differentiate the curriculum in order to support learning.
  • Support the aims of the school; comply with the requirements of health and safety, other relevant legislation and school policies.
  • Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance.
  • Attend training sessions and professionals meetings as required.
  • Work with other professionals e.g. speech therapists, occupational therapists etc. as necessary.
  • Undertake other duties from time to time as the Principal /Head of Inclusion requires.

Examples of Professional Duties (not exhaustive):

  • Academic assistance.
  • Giving individual instruction as prescribed by the teacher/providing group instruction, where appropriate.
  • Demonstrating various instructional activities.
  • Monitoring work assigned by teacher checking and correcting individual's work while in progress.
  • Keeping individual student and peers on task.
  • Praising and reinforcing achievements of students/reporting student progress to teacher.
  • Prepare materials for the individual as needed and in collaboration with class teacher.
  • Supervising individual student in the classrooms and other locations.
  • Promoting students' selfesteem and positive behaviors in line with the whole school policy.

Inclusion Assistants will be expected to comply with any reasonable request from a leader in the school to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description.


Minimum Qualification:
Bachelors degree mandatory. Relevant certification in special educational needs/similar is preferred.


Minimum Experience: 2 years of experience working with Students of Determination and those with special educational needs.
