Anesthesiologist Job Summary
An anesthesiologist is responsible for monitoring patient comfort before, during, and after surgical or medical procedures through the administration of anesthesia and other medications.
Anesthesiologist Responsibilities:
Meeting with patients before medical procedures to discuss their medical history and lifestyle.
- Assessing patients' conditions through analysis of medical history.
- Performing preoperative evaluation and procedures, including the decision process in choosing the type of anesthesia best suited for each patient.
- Arranging for preoperative lab results and other testing, and recommendations for further investigations, if necessary.
- Explaining to patients the surgical process.
- Provision of general, regional and local anesthesia that is relevant to each patient; emergency protocols and procedures (BLS/ACLS)
- Preparation of all required medicines and equipment prior to surgery, including reviewing the preop checklist to ensure that all equipment and medicines are present, and expiration dates are current.
- Monitoring patient vital signs and pain management after surgical and medical procedures to ensure patient comfort.
- Maintaining patient records relating to their procedures and the type and amounts of medications given.
- Correct use and maintenance of anaesthesia machines and other equipment.
- Postoperative follow up.
- Advise when specialized assistance is necessary (consultation or referral).
- Share relevant knowledge, skill and expertise with surgical, medical and nursing staff concerning their scope of practice and standards for good, professional practice.
- Advise on relevant administrative duties such as patient charting, recording and reporting of data, clinic and/or facility management, and coordination of specific educational programs.
- Assist in the provision of 24/7 hospital service and surgical care, which may occasionally require evening or night duties.
- Advise nursing staff on care of critically ill, postop surgical patients.
- Advise on continuing professional development and medical education opportunities, including skills in inservice presentations and research methods.
- Follow established departmental policies, procedures and objectives; continuous quality improvement initiative; safety, environmental, and infection prevention standards.
- Assist/train the surgical/ anaesthesia team to identify and report any problems which may interfere in the delivery of services or in achieving improved patient outcomes.
- Assist the surgical/ anaesthesia team in improving the surgical and anaesthesia department's administrative and human resource functions which will lead to improved patient outcomes.
Anesthesiologist Requirements:
- A degree in medicine with a 4year residency in Anesthesiology (MD (Anesthesiology))
- At least 3 years work experience post qualification
- A valid DOH and home country license.
- A strong working knowledge of maths, science, and medical practices.
- Strong detailoriented ability.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge of multiple languages will be an advantage.
- Ability to make quick decisions in a highly stressful environment.
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Al-Ayn: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (required)
