    Faculty Position in Highway and Transportation Engineering

    The Civil and Infrastructure Engineering Department at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) is seeking to fill a faculty position at the assistant professor level beginning Fall 2024 (August). The successful candidate for this position must have a Ph.
    D. in Civil Engineering (Highway and Transportation Engineering). The primary responsibility of the faculty position is to teach undergraduate and graduate courses at AURAK. All classes and other campus activities are conducted only in English.

    The successful candidate will be active in research in his/her fields of interests, incorporate high-impact educational practices in his/her teaching, advise undergraduate and graduate students, and provide service to the department, university, and community.

    The candidate will be expected to possess the credentials and ability to teach the following main courses:


    • Highway Engineering and Design
    • Transportation Engineering
    • Pavement Design


    In addition, the faculty member is expected to teach several civil engineering materials labs and supervising students on senior design projects.

    Extent of experience with ABET accreditation requirements must be indicated in the cover letter.

    Primary Responsibilities Include
    ● Teaching graduate and undergraduate courses


    • Establishment and/or continued development of a nationally or internationally recognized research program
    • Participate in the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and/or dissertations
    • Participation in departmental, school, and university committees
    • Advising and mentoring students
    • Publishing high-quality research in leading internationally recognized journals
    • Participation in outreach activities, such as continuing education workshops
    • Obtaining sponsored funding in support of research program Required qualifications:
    • Doctoral degree in Civil Engineering (Highway and Transportation Engineering) from an accredited institution of higher education
    • Effective communication skills
    • Commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship
    • Interest and experience working effectively with a diverse student population
    • Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with faculty from a variety of disciplines
    • University teaching experience
