About the Role

We are recruiting a Assistant Head of Primary to join the team from September 2023.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the schools Vision and Mission as well as all policies, academic standards and pastoral support in the Primary school.


The successful applicant will deputise for the Head of Primary as required and assist in shaping & implementing the educational strategy for the school.


Key Accountabilities

  • Model and encourage a culture of kindness in support of the GEMS/GIS core values
  • Guide student behavior and character development through policy creation and practice
  • Undertake the role of staffstudent relations' officer, specifically monitoring students' personal and social/emotional development, attending to changes in personal circumstances, academic progress, and general well being
  • Direct Parent Engagement for GIS, liaising with Corporate Office as required
  • Creates the annual master class schedule with the division Principal
  • Create the annual master supervision/duty schedule with the division Principal
  • Commit time and leadership for the successful implementation of GIS' Strategic Plan
  • Willingness to be a "mentor" to all faculty as well as encouraging their professional growth and career advancement.
  • Demonstrate rolemodel traits that enables others to recognize the Assistant Principal as a leader of educators
  • Seek management harmony and to instill a sense of common purpose and common pursuit toward consensus goals with regards to the decisionmaking process
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, parents, colleagues and in the community (i.e. verbal, nonverbal and written communication)
  • Seek the involvement of faculty and parents in a wide variety of School activities
  • Assist in developing the leadership capabilities of teachers so that instructional leadership becomes a shared responsibility
  • Assist in assessing achievement results to determine whether curriculum and instructional goals and student performance outcomes are being met
  • Promote an efficient, productive and caring campus atmosphere where all students (and faculty) have opportunity to be recognized for their best efforts
  • Demonstrate personal commitment to seek constant professional learning and professional growth and to be a lifelong learner
  • Accept the importance and necessity to support the after school student activity programs and Parent Association events
  • Assist in the responsibility for the "mechanics" of the assignment; activities such as accurate record keeping, office accounting, etc.
  • Support and participate in committee work
  • Perform those activities as will be required for the general welfare of the School and/or as requested by the division Principals and/or Head of School
  • Serve as a positive, contributing member to the School Leadership Team, supporting policy and practice that is best for student learners
  • Assist in the screening, interviewing, and hiring process of personnel as requested
  • Identify, facilitate and encourage professional development opportunities in relation to GIS programs
  • Attend conference meetings as appropriate
  • Assist with new faculty induction and orientation processes
  • Submit materials required for the Head of School's annual report as requested
  • Prepare effectively for any conference or accreditation evaluation visits
  • Assist with a calendar of scheduled division level events
  • Manage and develop staff in accordance with school's continual professional development strategy.
  • Demonstrate outstanding teaching skills which leads to excellent results and outcomes.
  • Demonstrate excellent and innovative pedagogical practice, including the use of educational technology.
  • Coach and mentor staff, providing advice and feedback.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, implementing impact plans where necessary.
  • Manage the department budget and resources.
  • Prepare for KHDA School Inspection in accordance with criteria and follow through with action plan.

The successful applicant will be:


  • A fully certified teacher, holding a B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE or equivalent
  • Passionate about providing outstanding teaching and learning
  • Highly experienced in the IB Curriculum
  • Efficient in people development and have proven leadership and communication abilities
