About G42 Healthcare Bioinformatics team (BIX)

BIX is comprised by 10+ bioinformaticians, a Bioinformatics Manager and a Bioinformatics Director.

We have diverse educational (from life sciences to engineering), seniority (from trainees to senior bioinformaticians) and cultural (5+ nationalities) backgrounds.

BIX is part of the Healthcare Technology Operating Unit (OU) at G42 Healthcare, together with the Applied Science, Engineering and Infrastructure teams in the OU.

Working closely with such teams as well as other OUs (e.g. Omics, Business), we drive and support many of the internal, government and commercial projects executed by G42 Healthcare.

The performance of the team is aimed at (a) revenue generation and cost saving; (b) process improvement and innovation through engaging with other OUs, collaborators, vendors and customers; (c) retain talent through creating a productive team culture and continuous training.

BIX covers three main functional areas and we are softly organized with three corresponding sub-teams: (1) Operations - Infrastructure & Production; (2) Special Operations - Technical Enablement & Support; (3) Data Mining & Research.


Responsibilities:


We look for a Bioinformatician with work experience in genomics and bioinformatics to join the Special Operations - Technical Enablement & Support sub-team.

Role within BIX and G42 HealthcareKey responsibilities

  • Comply with team's working system (communication channels, meetings, training)
  • Embrace team's culture values
  • Report to the Bioinformatics Manager and interact with the Bioinformatics Director
  • Directly work with subteam members to meet "Key Responsibilities" (see below)
  • Strongly interact with other BIX's members to meet team's targets
  • Collaborate with Healthcare Technology and OUs to meet the company's targets


Reporting to the Director - Technology & Engineering, you will develop dynamic simulations, create mathematical models and perform pattern analyses of biological systems for G42 Healthcare in collaboration with the technology and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Scope requirements and attempted improvements with stakeholders (e.g. BIX member, OU, collaborator, customer)
  • Technical enablement infrastructure improvements; validations (experimental procedures, software, computing environment, etc.); proofofconcepts
  • Support G42 Healthcare OUs and customers
  • Special projects relatively small projects (e.g. pilot studies before Production)
  • Write reports summarizing procedures and results, and presentation to stakeholders

Qualifications:
To qualify, you must have

  • Formal education (BSc or MSc) in fields with deep exposure to genomics, computing environments, programming, statistics and data analysis
- >3 years of experience in bioinformatics in academic or industry setups

  • Fundamental understanding of relevant genomics and bioinformatics concepts (e.g. sequencing, basecalling, alignment, variant calling)
  • Practical understanding of Illumina, MGI and Oxford Nanopore highthroughput sequencing (HTS) technologies
  • Native in commandline, highperformance computing (HPC) and cloud environments
  • Strong programming skills (e.g. Bash, Python, R, Perl)
  • Relevant experience creating, deploying and running bioinformatics pipelines for HTS analysis (especial focus on variant calling)
  • Effective data analysis skills from pipeline output to databacked concise insights
Good-to-have

  • Embrace tools to avoid knowledge, code or data silos: Git*, Confluence, Jira, Teams
  • Knowledge of workflow management languages (e.g. Nextlfow, SnakeMake)
  • Practical experience with bioinformatics tools for data management (e.g. SAMtools, BCFtools, BEDTools, etc.)
  • Native with data analysis environments like RStudio and Jupyter Notebooks
  • Experience with general data management, statistical analysis and plotting for Python or R packages (e.g. Tydiverse, Pandas, ggplot2, Seaborn)
  • Exposure to genomics data analysis frameworks (e.g. Hail, Glow)
  • Understanding of common genetics concepts and analysis (e.g. GWAS, ROH, PCA)
  • Indepth knowledge of the healthcare and technology
