    As an essential team member on the market-leading publisher in Advanced Placement education under the BFW Publishers imprint, the High School Program Manager for Social Studies is responsible for the overall health and financial performance of their respective discipline portfolio including cultivating relationships in, and knowledge of, their markets; creating and directing forward- looking revision plans that address teacher, student, and administrator needs in both print and digital environments; recruiting hiring, and managing authors, contributors, and freelancers to implement development plans; strategic, long-term planning; list management with a focus on program cycling; acquisition of selected new programs; budgeting; forecasting, profitability; relationship building with internal colleagues; and advocating for their programs with marketing and sales. The High School Program Manager will demonstrate experience creating successful programs, will understand the challenges and opportunities associated with publishing on schedule and on budget, and will be able to work effectively with others to implement and advocate for print and digital strategies that enhance learning. This role does not manage other employees.

    Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage and serve as the strategic decision-maker for their program to accurately identify, evaluate, and address existing and potential strategic and budgetary opportunities and barriers to optimize the health of the product portfolio.
  • Ensure that publication of all high school course products are timely to market, competitive, and creative, and meet their financial and sales goals.
  • Serve as the primary contact for our authors, content developers/advisors, and resource team members.
  • Recruit a diverse group of reviewers, thought leaders, faculty advisory boards, and key decision-makers and plan the development of products in the portfolio.
  • Research, plan, and execute the development and integration of multimedia-based teaching and learning resources to provide for a robust program.
  • Manage and serve as the key decision-maker for the financial P&Ls for digital products, franchises, and titles, and new product models working closely with development, production, finance, and others to control costs and ensure profitability.
  • Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in educational publishing or an education learning company.
  • Proven ability to provide strong leadership and excellent editorial judgment that leads to the publication of a successful textbook program, including the core text and resources.
  • Outstanding project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple ongoing projects, to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to delegate and benchmark effectively.
  • Confidence in negotiating contracts, planning, and managing the budget for complex projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to form productive, collaborative working relationships with authors, author teams, and in house teams including marketing, content and assessment development, media editorial, and production.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Apps.
  • Salary Range: $88,000 - $92,000/year

    Exemption Status : Exempt

    Physical Requirements:

    Position requires periods of close concentration and the ability to multi-task in an open office, noisy/busy environment. Must be able to travel occasionally, and work more than 40 hours a week as needed.

    This position is being filled with a preference for close access to our New York City office with the possibility for strong candidates to be eligible for remote employment.
