    The System Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and security of the university's server and network infrastructure. This role involves the maintenance of user accounts, server performance, data backup, system updates, and the guarantee of the availability and dependability of critical IT services, including email, file sharing, authentication systems, and academic platforms. The position is responsible for the maintenance of a secure, scalable, and high-performing IT environment, which is essential for both academic and administrative operations.

    Responsibilities

    1.    User Access & Authentication

    •    Perform server administration tasks (ex: user/group, security permissions, group policies, print services).

    •    Administrator and managing AD, Office 365 tools and Azure infrastructure.

    •    Monitor event-log warnings and errors.

    •    Support cloud-based platforms (e.g., Microsoft 365, AWS, Azure).

    •    Assist the help desk and other teams with troubleshooting to identify root cause and provide technical support when needed.
    2.    Backup, Recovery, and Data Security

    •    Perform routine and scheduled audits of all systems, including backups and restore.

    •    Implement and manage data backup and disaster recovery solutions.

    •    Monitor system logs and alerts to ensure data integrity and compliance.

    •    Collaborate with the cybersecurity team on system hardening and incident response.
    3.    Server & Infrastructure Management

    •    Monitor data-center health using existing management tools and respond to hardware issues as they arise; help build, test, and maintain new servers when needed.

    •    Maintain internal infrastructure requirements, including laptop and desktop computers, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, printers, phones, security updates, support internet, intranet, LANs, WANs, and network segments.

    •    Support cloud-based platforms (e.g., Microsoft 365, AWS, Azure) (also listed under Access).

    •    Manage virtualization platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, or Proxmox.

    4.    Software & Application Administration

    •    Manage and administer software installations and setup.

    •    Administer major applications like LMS, ERP, Exams, and SIS systems.
    5.    Automation, Scripting & Monitoring

    •    Create and maintain scripts for system automation, performance monitoring, and reporting.

    •    Automate repetitive tasks using PowerShell, Bash, or equivalent scripting languages.

    •    Monitor system logs and alerts to ensure data integrity and compliance (also listed under Backup).
     

    Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in information technology or computer science.
    • 5+ years of experience as a System Administrator or in a similar IT infrastructure role.
    • Proficient in Windows Server and/or Linux system administration, with hands-on experience or knowledge of programming languages, operating systems, current technologies, enterprise backup and recovery procedures, systems performance-monitoring tools, Active Directory, group policy management, virtualization, HTTP traffic, content delivery, caching, and basic networking.
    • Experience in project management, application design and integration.
    • Experience with cloud computing (specifically Microsoft Office 365 and Azure).
    • Expertise in analyzing and repairing large-scale distributed systems.
    • Strong understanding of IT security best practices and backup solutions.
    • Scripting experience (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) is preferred.
    • Professional certifications are a must such as MCSA, RHCSA, CompTIA Server+, or VMware VCP are a plus.
    • Experience with vendor management.
