    ProfessionalResponsibilities
    • Nursesare expected to practice according to the Code of ProfessionalConduct as laid down by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Irelandand Professional ClinicalGuidelines.
    • Adhereat all times to the Nursing Board code for nurses and ensure thatsubordinate staff dolikewise.
    • Adhereto Aut Even Hospital Guidelines / Policies /Protocols.
    • Workwithin their scope of practice and take measures to continuouslydevelop and maintain a high standard of professional behaviour andbe accountable for theirpractice.
    • Provideand maintain a caring, efficient and highly professional nursingservice to all patients in his / hercare.
    • Beaware of ethical policies and procedures which pertain to theirarea ofpractice.
    • Respectand maintain the privacy, dignity and confidentiality of thepatient at alltimes.
    • Assumeresponsibility for and coordinate the management of the ward areain the absence of the CNM I/CNMII.
    • Toundertake the role of mentor/buddy where requested and tofacilitate the orientation and development of newstaff.

    ClinicalPractice

    • Activelyparticipate in anaesthetics, scrub, and circulating, PACU orendoscopy room duties as isrequired.

    Endoscopy

    • Prepareequipment and instruments according to the individual needs of thepatient and Consultant Surgeon/Gastroenterologist, as well asinvolvement with the updating of consultant preferencecards.
    • Assistin the smooth and effective running of the EndoscopyUnit.
    • Assessing,planning, delivering and evaluation of patient care in theendoscopicroom.
    • Ensureeffective teamwork by good communication with all members of themultidisciplinary team to enable continuity of care and a safeenvironment for patients and staff, following local protocols andstandards.
    • Awarenessof the effective management of resources within thedepartment.
    • Participatein education, training and development of otherstaff.
    • Ensureall equipment is checked prior to use and any faults reported tothe line mangerimmediately.
    • Helpto control cross infection by observing departmental policyregarding theatre attire, the maintenance of a clean workingenvironment, decontamination and sterilisation procedures andasepsis.
    • Preparepatients for endoscopy procedures under sedation or generalanaesthesia.
    • Maintainup to date knowledge and skills within endoscopy and the professionofnursing.

    Scrub/Circulating

    • Providenursing care for patients undergoingsurgery.
    • Assistconsultant surgeons in all surgicalprocedures.
    • Maintainstandards of nursing care in pre-operative and post-operativeplanning, implementation and patientcare.
    • Beaware of the multifaceted needs of theatre patients and provide aholistic support service for them and theirfamilies.
    • Preparethe operating room for all elective scheduledprocedures.
    • Maintainthe principles of aseptic techniques in performing surgical scrub,setting instruments, gowning, gloving as needed for each surgicalprocedure.
    • Ensurethat controlled drug records are kept in accordance with standardrecognised legal and professionalpractice.
    • Ensurethe correct counting procedures are adhered to throughout thepatient stay in the operatingroom.
    • Supervisethe nursing practice of less experienced staff members of thenursing team and participate in the educational aspects of thatpractice.



    Requirements

    • Beregistered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses keptby NMBI or be entitled to be soregistered.
    • BasicLife SupportTraining.
    • 2years Theatre Nursingexperience.
    • Arelevant Theatre qualification isadvantageous.
