    PO S ITION TITL E :

    CLINICAL EDUCATION DIRECTOR
    Provides overall planning.

    direction, coordination, management and supervision for the clinical staff development activities including in-ser ice and continuing education trainings, and orientation programs.

    Consults with Nursing administration, managers/directors, taff, and physicians to ensure patient and clinical staff needs arc met. Develops manuals, educational policies. procedures, and competencie . Serves as a resource person 10 clinical staff and management.

    Develops and delines the competencies required of clinical educators, and coaches and mentors them to ensure their continuous professional development.

    Collaborates with the Clinical Governance Department on educational requirements to promote quality of services and monitors the implementation of quality improvement activities.


    DUTIES AND R ESPONSIB I LITIES:

    • Plan, develop. implement, and evaluate in-service trainings and continuing education programs for the Clinical Department using evidence-based approach.
    • Responsible for staff development activities and pro grams.
    • ct as a consultant to the Nurse E ducator s.
    • Perform clinical rounds and conduct individual training needs analysis on the individu a l. unit, and departmental level. an d work with managers to determine these ce ll s.
    • Identify critical staff development issues and problems, determine the appropriate training interventions or other programs. and implement appropriate responses
    • Determine department development, and learning needs, change and design programs or interventions depending on changing needs using evidence-based approach.
    • Coordinate and collaborate with the Clinical Educators on learning needs, professi o nal development and competence of the staff.
    • Assist in providing the Clinical personnel with learning opportunities to m ee t their respective job evaluation criteria per JCI standards.
    • Coordinate training sessions and programs with other hospital department s.
    • Brief and recommend action to the Chief Nursing Onlcer for training ac ti v iti es.
    • Order and maintain clinical education tools / k i t s / s imulat o r s.
    • Identify/Screen internal and external education/training re so urc es
    • Maintain career development resources. Identify latest issues in c lini cal/ nur s in g / o th e r issues and invite speakers to give pr ese ntation s.
    • Organize and develop training materials, course outlines, reference library, testing a nd evaluation procedures, multi-media visual aids, and other educational mat e ri a l s
    • Design brochures, and announcements to publicize various trainin g programs and activities.
    • Evaluate the training activities a nd effectiveness or the educational materials t h rough instructor and staff participation / feedback.
    • Oversee the nursing staff orientation program ensuring standards of technical and professional competence are attained.
    • Plan orientation program for all new and transferred staff lo include didactic and cl ini cal
    • experience adequate lo attain required standard or performance.
    • Revise and update educational materials as n e ed e d
    • Verify orient technical/professional skill competencies o n c h ec kli s t.
    • Fol low-up with preceptor to ensure appropriate implementation of the orientation pro g ram .
    • Act as a professional role model.
    • Fully supports hospital policies and serves as a professional role model for s taff .
    • Runs and develops monthly clinical education calendar outlining educatio nal opportunities for nursing s taff .
    • Networks with external institutions and others as appropriate and provides learning and development support at the discretion of the h osp ital.
    • Evaluate the timeliness of the orientation pro cess .
    • Collaborate with the Clinical Governance Team on quality of services, monitor t he implementation of quality improvement activities, and design educational programs in response to quality improvement needs.
    • Use various quality management strategies lo continuously improve staff d eve l o pm ent pro g ram s.
    • Participate in special nursing proj ec t s.
    • Participate in JCI review when ap pli ca ble.
    • Assume responsibility for meeting JCI required mandatory education, e.g., fire. safety. infection control and others.
    • Formulate training policies and p r oced ur e s .
    • Develop, define. and update the competencies required of all nursing s taff

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Ba c h e lor 's Degree in Nursing (duration n o t l ess than thr ee yea r s) or
    • Diploma in Nursing (not less than three academic years in nursing only) or
    • Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery (not less than three academic yea r s)
    • A Degree/Diploma in Education is d es irable.
    • Masters de g r ee in Nursing is preferred

    PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

    • 5 years experience as a Senior Staff Development Nurse Educator and 2 years experience in Nursing Staff Development Administration.
