    Core Purpose:

    The purpose of the role of Class Teacher is to share theresponsibility for planning teaching and assessments of thesubjects assigned that guides and encourages students to developand fulfill their academic potential. They must take responsibilityfor promoting high standards of literacy and articulacy as well asset high expectations and standards which inspire motivate andchallenge pupils. The Class Teacher will be a suitably qualifiededucator with a proven capacity to lead and effectively deliverteaching and learning to a very high standard. They will beaccountable for ensuring that children are inspired motivated andequipped to make as much progress with their learning as possibleand as independently as possible. The incumbent will work closelywith colleagues and support the work of the school. They willrequire initiative be empathetic and proactive with a personableand positive character. The post holder will be required to have apositive impact on the work of the school e.g. through subjectleadership and extracurricular activities. Experience working withstudents for whom English is an additional language would be anadvantage.

    MainResponsibilities:

    The class teacher will plan the teaching toachieve progression of learning through identifying clear teachingobjectives and specifying how they will be taught through:

    • Setting tasks which challengepupils and ensure high levels of interest
    • Setting clear targets building on prior progress andattainment
    • Identifying SEN/EALpupils
    • Providing clear structures for lessonsmaintaining pace motivation and challenge
    • Making effective use of assessment and ensure coverage ofprogrammes of study
    • Maintaining highstandards of work and homework
    • Using avariety of teaching methods to match approach to content structureinformation and present information
    • Useeffective questioning listen carefully to pupils give attention toerrors and misconceptions
    • Select appropriatelearning resources and develop study skills through library other sources
    • Ensuring pupils acquire andconsolidate knowledge skills and understanding appropriate to thesubject taught
    • Ensuring the effective andefficient deployment of classroom support
    • Encouraging pupils to think and talk about their learningdevelop selfcontrol and independence concentrate and persevere andlisten attentively
    • Involved in developingimplementing and monitoring subject policy and to assist in theproduction of such documentation when required
    • Ensures that the childrens work is marked displayed andpresented to a high standard in the classroom and throughout theschool and are changed regularly
    • Consistentlyand diligently apply and uphold the rules of the school in order tomaintain discipline dress code and to ensure the happiness safetyand wellbeing of all pupils and community
    • Maintains with the rest of the staff high standards of conduct bothin and out of the classroom acting in a way that is honestjustifiable and in the best interests of the pupils
    • Sharing planning and resources ensuring effectivecommunication and directing the work of others asappropriate.
    • Carrying out the role of asubject leader planning and leading extracurricular activitiesparticipating and leading staff training and contributing to thedevelopment and further improvement of the schoolcommunity.
    • Comply with our agreed policiesincluding the professional code of conduct teacher standards andICT acceptable use policy
    • Maintains smart andprofessional standards of appearance with particular attention toand awareness of cultural sensitivities
    • Supports the School Improvement Plan in relation to the curriculumand the continuing improvement of student achievement

    Monitoring Assessing Recording andReporting

    • Monitors and evaluatesthe effectiveness of personal teaching to maintain high standardsand ensure student progression
    • Evaluates ownteaching critically to improve effectiveness
    • Participates in classroom observation of colleagues (peerobservations) when required and participates in observations bypeers
    • Submits books records or planning asrequired for monitoring by colleagues or SLT
    • Marks and monitors pupils work and regularly set targets forprogress
    • Assesses and records pupils progresssystematically and keep records to check work is understood andcompleted monitors strengths and weaknesses
    • Plans and recognises the level at which the pupil isachieving
    • Undertakes assessment of studentsas requested through departmental and school procedures
    • Prepares and presents informative reports toparents
    • Regularly assesses the pupils work bymeans of formal and informal termly half termly assessment and endof units as directed by SLT
    • Communicates withthe school SENCO and Head of Key Stage regarding any pupil whoseprogress or behaviour gives cause for concern
    • Keeps records and ensures that they are available for sharing withcolleagues and / or inspection by members of the SLT ISP and ADEKInspection team
    • Assists with the resourcingof the subjects taught as directed by the Head of KeyStage/department

    CurriculumDevelopment

    • Within a team developsplans that identify clear targets and success criteria for thedevelopment and maintenance of the schools curriculum
    • Contributes to the whole schools planningactivities

    Directed Time

    • Ensures attendance in school betweenstipulated hours and to attend all meetings/functions deemed to bedirected time.
    • Actively engage with ourschool community e.g. through newsletters informal dialoguereporting supporting school functions and contributing to communityactivities

    Punctuality

    • Set high standards with regard to punctualityand to encourage the same from the pupils and colleagues
    • Enters student attendance in the system and notifies theParent Relations Executive if there are any absences or latecomers

    Health and Safety

    • Emphasizes the importance of safety in allareas of the curriculum communicating to the pupils the importanceof a responsible attitude towards personal safety the safety ofothers and respect for Aspen Heights British Schools property andequipment
    • Perform all playground duties ontime and with due diligence to safeguard Aspen students
    • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protectstudents equipment materials and facilities
    • Assist in implementing all policies and rules governing studentlife and conduct
    • Ensure that all thenecessary health and safety rules and procedures are beingfollowed
    • Maintain an awareness of all thehealth and safety measures to be taken when in school

    Communicationwith Parents

    • Communicates withparents on a regular informal basis and to deal with day to dayqueries
    • Attends Parents Evenings as requiredand to provide accurate honest information regarding the progressof individuals at these meetings
    • Reports tothe parents in the form of written reports twice yearly or whenrequired by the SLT

    StaffDevelopment ECA & Cover

    • Attends and participates fully in Staff Development staff meetingsand briefings as set
    • Provides cover forabsent colleagues as and when necessary
    • Contributes to the extracurricular activity program to enrich theschool experience for the pupils as reasonably directed by the SLTand ECA Coordinator

    Support Provided

    • Weekly team meetings with the phase to share goodpractice and planning for the coming week
    • Weekly training to support areas of school development
