MEA NRCET Sales Lead

Natural Resources and Clean Energy Transition (NRCET) is one of the industry verticals for Citi. This sector is highly specialized in products and solutions and the engagement model. Operating globally and at a fast pace.


This role is for the Trade Sales lead in NRCET & Commodity Trade Finance (CTF) for the MEA Cluster, responsible for the origination and execution of the complete suite of Trade and Working Capital Solutions (Core Trade, Receivables, Payables and Performance-based financing) to drive client revenues.

The client base consists of Corporate clients in Commodities & Energy, Power and Chemicals with headquarters and subsidiaries globally.

The focus of the role is to deepen and broaden relationships at multiple levels within Treasury/ Finance, Trading and other decision makers/ influencers, extending the breadth and usage of all Trade Finance solutions especially structured commodity trade finance and elevate client conversations e.g.

ESG transition and sustainability-linked solutions.


Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Global Head of Trade Sales for NRCET & CTF and the MEA Head of Trade Sales, the individual will develop and execute the MEA NRCET & CTF industry strategy for Trade and Working Capital Solutions.

  • Ensure the team is proactively reaching out to clients to understand their business objectives, to discuss solutions and product enhancements and to look for opportunities to propose new capabilities and expand current offerings
  • Lead client engagement in the structuring of solutions and executing new mandates
  • Lead complex structured deals working closely with the Distribution teams, Operations and Legal
  • Manage multiple drivers to achieve overall business objectives, including pricing/ returns/ distribution, with constant marktomarket on pricing vs competition, adjusting pricing and hold positions to grow the P&L and manage the Balance Sheet
  • Communicate client feedback and market intelligence on competitor offerings to the Product organisation to enhance the Trade offering so that it is industry leading, relevant and meets the clients' evolving needs, with input into the investment spend process to prioritise key developments
  • Guide regionally on innovations and product launches that could benefit their countries in the region and encourage deal replication across the region
  • Work closely with the Trade Client Success Head to drive an excellent client experience
  • Proactively liaise with clients on endendend service and operations re business flows and manage communication with backoffice teams (Operations, TCS) to ensure timely setups, etc
  • Ensure product solutions are managed within robust control frameworks and are aligned with regulatory and institutional requirements
  • Provide portfolio oversight across the portfolio and ensure high credit portfolio quality
  • Ensure satisfactory results on internal/ external audits

Knowledge/ Experience:


  • 15 years deep experience in Trade Finance products including Letters of Credits, Receivables, Payables and Commodity Trade Finance
  • Track record of executing complex and structured commodity trade finance transactions including Borrowing Base, Transactional Secured, Performance Based (Prepayment and Preexport) Finance
  • In depth knowledge of Energy, Metals and Agriculture commodity supply chains.
  • 15 years Sales, Structuring or Relationship Management
  • Demonstrated track record of leading high performing teams with range of experiences
  • Experience of business development, building and maintaining key relationships
  • Experience of developing and executing sales strategies for relevant products & solutions, including ESG related

  • Proven leadership ability in Natural Resources & Commodities as a banker or Trade professional
