    Description
    • Provides direct patient care andcoordinates patient care-related activities using the scientificprocess of nursing
    • Abides by AHD nursingstandards of care andpractice

    DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Demonstratesproblem solving/critical thinking skills ensuring effectivefunctioning of unit routine.
    • Demonstratescurrent neonatal critical care nursing knowledge with ability torecognize and apply basic pathophysiology in the diseaseprocess.
    • Demonstrates competent technicalnursing skills; medications are administered safely and accordingto policies and procedures, physicians are assisted with patientexaminations and specialized procedures, proficiency isdemonstrated with IV therapy, and dressings etc.
    • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills requiredin recognizing potential emergency situations; codes and otheremergency situations are managed competently. Actively participatesin mock codes.
    • Develops individualized careplans based on the nursing diagnosis, with updated revisionsaccording to evaluation and re-assessment findings. Activities ofdaily living e.g. hygiene needs are considered in daily careplanning.
    • Sets priorities and plansimplementation of patient care; implementation of care is completedin a timely, organized manner and follows AHD nursing standards andpolicy and procedure. Activities of daily living e.g. hygiene needsare supported.
    • Demonstrates attention todischarge planning; discharge planning is addressed on admission,on-going and as care plans are modified. Discharge and transferprocedures are completed in a timely and completemanner.
    • Provides accurate, complete and promptreports on patient care conditions and response to treatmentutilizing the standardized SBAR. Collaborates effectively as amultidisciplinary team member.
    • Nursingdocumentation is informative, complete, accurate, concise andlegible. Documentation follows AHD and JCI standards and reflectsthe nursing process from assessment through evaluation.
    • Works in other areas within the hospital whenassigned, within the scope ofpractice.
    • Maintains clinical and professionalcompetency based on the latest research and established standardsof practice. Completes all Core Competencies for nursing as well asapplicable Unit Specific Competencies within prescribedtimelines.
    • Demonstrates awareness and knowledgeof Infection Control, Pain Management and Wound Care practices andstandards. Reports and documents as directed in the relevantpolicies and procedures.
    • Understands theresponsibilities of safe handling, and administration of Narcotic /Controlled Drugs and documentation as directed by policies andprocedures.
    • Demonstrates support of leadership.Encourages team decisions, cooperation within and acrossdepartments and assist in resolving differences ofopinion.
    • Demonstrates an understanding ofcultural difference among customers and colleagues, demonstratessensitivity and tolerance to cultural differences.
    • Involves patient, significant others andhealthcare provider in patient's plan of care andeducation.
    • Performs special procedures inaccordance to procedures and guidelines, following orders andappropriate monitoring.
    • Demonstrates knowledgeof and the ability to, render care based on age, appropriatenessand developmental needs ofpatients.
    • Demonstrates proficiency in the useof medical equipment available and in use on theunit.
    • Demonstrates understanding andfamiliarity with Facility Management and Safetyplan.

    Team Leader'sResponsibilities (whenapplicable

    • Liaises with and updatesthe Nurse Manager/Admin Supervisor/ Bed Coordinator about thefollowing:

    1. Significant changes inpatient status.

    2. Admissions, discharges,transfers, out on pass and deaths.

    3. Staffingissues.

    4. Administrativeissues.

    • Orientates and assistsfloating staff as needed. Follows up on Float ResponseForm.
    • Completes Team Leader Orientation andmeets the criteria indicators for the Team Leader role on theunit.
    • Facilitates unit's work flow,assignments of tasks and follows up on staffing issues.
    • Completes all specific unit duties as per theAllocationBook.

    Preceptor'sResponsibilities (when applicable):

    Completes thePreceptor workshop and meets the criteria indicators for thepreceptor role on the unit.

    Has precepted newstaff.

    Demonstrates ability to impart knowledgein critical thinking to new employees andcolleagues.

    Plans, implements and evaluates theindividualized competency based orientation in collaboration withorientee, nurse manager, clinical resourcenurse.

    Provides appropriated feedback in a timelymanner to orientees and Nurse Manager.

    Providesobjective documentation to the nurse manager utilizing the AHDorientation package.
