HEALTHCAREASSISTANT

The Healthcare assistant is a healthcare professionalwho assists the Registered Nurse/ Midwife with nonnursing duties ofpatients with various healthcare needs.
Roles andresponsibilities:

To assist in the provision of high quality care topatients and their families under the direction and supervision ofthe Registered nurse/Midwife.
Demonstrate a range of skills to meet the needs of patients whilstpromoting dignity privacy and respect.
To provide a range of healthcare and nonnursing dutiesensuring an efficient and effective service to the Ward/Departmentat all times.
To assist withadministration and nonnursing duties.
To perform basic care under the direction of aRegistered Nurse / Midwife. Assist the trained nurse with patientsdaily personal hygiene bathing/showering eating and drinkingambulating turning and positioning of patients etc.
To assist all patients who are able towardsindependence and activity under the direction of the RegisteredNurse/ Midwife in charge.
Toprovide patient comfort by utilizing resources and materials;transporting patients; answering patients call bells and requests;reporting observations of the patient to team leader.
To assist in lifting and turning patientstransporting patients in wheelchairs stretches or beds betweendepartments.
To change bed linenwhen needed/making beds and perform light housekeeping duties inpatients rooms.
To assist totransfer patients to other departments.
To accompany patients who are ready for discharge to themain exit (lobby).
To transportspecimens to laboratories.
Totransport equipment and patient records betweendepartments.
To support theRegistered Nursing staff and Ward Clerk in the clericaladministrative and receptionist duties in the ward.
To assist in the maintenance of stocks andnonmedical supplies.
To developand utilize good communication skills and receive and pass ontelephone messages.
To correctlyuse aids and equipment supplied for patients. Report needs andobvious defects of this equipment to the Registered Nurse / Midwifein charge.
To cover the duties ofthe Ward Clerk in her absence.

Requisitos

Education and licenses

Minimum High schooldiploma.
Nursing qualificationwithout license preferred

Experience

At least 2 years working in a hospitalenvironment / Nursing experience / background

Working conditions

The incumbent will berequired to work during weekends public holidays andnights.
May be required to workovertime depending on the needs of the Organization.
This job may require the ability tocontinuously stand or walk. It may also require the ability to bendsquat and lift documents and files.
