About the Role

We're seeking a talented Engineering Lead based in Dubai to join our mission, lead our team and guide the evolution of our technology.

As a fast growing SME, this role will be a mix of guiding and doing, alongside technical and people leadership.

You'll be responsible for the overall health and productivity of the engineers within your team, whilst driving them to make ambitious, yet achievable, goals.

EdAid view the role in three core elements: Tech, Organisation and Culture. As an Engineering Lead, you will have autonomy and influence on all three.

Tech - You will manage a cross-functional team of engineers across different territories and time zones. You will have oversight of the team's technology choices, its processes and structure, working closely with the Head of Tech, to ensure your team meets the required quality standards for resiliency, security, and scalability. You will use your influence to drive change and improvements across the floor.

Organisational - As the Engineering Lead you will be accountable for the successful execution of technical changes and support activities. You will work closely with other Leads, including QA Data, and Product, and you will have the scope to build/form your teams, manage how you deal with failure, and how you measure and celebrate success.

Culture - Promoting and feeding into the companies' beliefs is key in this role; you will be an ambassador internally and externally. Develop people through great coaching and mentoring. The role requires a passionate person who can manage challenging priorities and remove ambiguity for their team. The ability to be customer-focused and innovative while bringing our stakeholders on the journey is key. Your aim is to grow a healthy team with individuals who understand their roles, are motivated and fulfilled, helping them to stay highly engaged and productive.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Own and delegate the risk management within your squad, identifying risk proactively within technology and delivery
  • Mentor and nurture your squad through effective 1:1 management, escalating any matters as needed
  • Leverage modern technologies where appropriate to ensure EdAid is a leader in the financial industry when it comes to technology. Be a champion of those technology choices across the floor
  • Work with the wider squads and peers to reduce cognitive load and enable quicker and easier delivery of customer value
  • Regularly review designs and pull requests from the engineers in your team
  • If a project is blocked, you'll intervene with mentoring/coaching to overcome the obstacle or by removing it yourself
  • Ensure best practices are followed to enable them to succeed in the EdAid ecosystem
  • Enable collaboration and innovation in the team and with stakeholders. Create an environment that drives positive energy and a mentality to succeed
  • Define and implement metrics and ensure we can effectively measure success
  • Work with Product owners and stakeholders to shape product and technical roadmaps, and clarify and build accurate project requirements
  • Execute leadership by example by performing handson development as well as peer reviews according to internal standards
  • Lead, design and develop new and existing architecture and overall stack while ensuring its scalability
  • Full stack development from using front end technologies like to database technologies such as SQL Server and everything in between
  • MVC,.Net Core, Azure etc
  • Be accountable for your squad's performance on both an individual contributor level and team level
  • Responsibility for ensuring your squad follows all change and incident management processes
  • Work with the squad to produce and adhere to accurate estimations and deadlines for tasks
  • Create and maintain capacity planning, recruitment activities as well as performance management for the lifecycle of the members of your team

Your Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience leading, coaching and mentoring a team of engineers
  • Experience in performing interviews and recruiting new team members
  • Full ownership of the software delivery lifecycle in a regulated/controlled environment
  • Experience in cloud native environments
  • Using best practice to improve products/services or processes
  • Experience of backend microservice architectures
  • Experience of API first platforms
  • Experience of Event based architecture
  • Experience running a product support capability
  • Fully comfortable with all aspects of project management
  • Experiencing managing stakeholders
  • Experie
