Job Purpose:


The purpose of the Group Manager Media Relations is to support the Group Senior Manager International Media Relations in tailoring programmes to the specific requirements of the UAE 'home market' ( _and the wider pan-Arab region _); and in managing internal processes which enable the effective operations of the Head Office Media Relations team.


The focus of the Group Manager Media Relations is hands-on implementation and operational underpinning for key elements of the Global Media Relations Plan, which is designed to support Group Business Objectives, and which is fully aligned with the DP World Brand Purpose and company-wide brand repositioning objectives.


The key skill sets required in this role are a good understanding of the media environment in UAE (and the wider pan-Arab region); knowledge of geopolitical and social sensitivities, a reliable command of the Arabic language and culture needed to deal effectively with media owners and influential journalists in the region; and the digital skills to manage the capture and sharing of information and materials needed for effective media relations programmes.


Key Accountabilities:


The Group Manager Media Relations operates within the framework of Media Relations Strategy and Plans managed by the Senior Manager International Media Relations (and overall Group VP Media Relations).

The key accountabilities of the role are operational and can be summarised as follows:

Media relations:

  • Deal with key Arabic and English language media outlets. Focusing on nurturing, expanding and maintaining strong media relationships.
  • Monitor the media landscape to stay abreast of trends, opportunities and emerging issues and provide advice on relations with media.
  • Handle editorial requests from various DP World's divisions (i.e., legal, sustainability, IR etc).
  • Fulfil the responsibility of ensuing the views of DP World are accurately represented in the media with a particular focus on UAE.

Story generation:

  • Building relationships within DP World's departments from engineering, business development and so on.

Translation:

  • Create engaging Arabic content for executives, for media interactions.
  • Validating translated Arabic copy from vendors before publication.
  • Supervise the Arabic translation of the DP World's Weekly Report, ensure correctness of information and language and avoid local and regional sensitivities (report is required every Sunday).

Internal Processes:

  • Press Page for English and Arabic press release distribution (including the uploading and maintenance of media lists).
  • Photo selection, captions and uploading press releases to DP World website.
  • Coordination with Social & Digital team, as well as with DPW's regional teams occasionally, to ensure press releases are amplified, and to help in managing crises emanating from mainstream and digital platforms.
  • Creation and distribution of Global One Voice (GOV) document process to ensure communications teams are aware of regional news and take appropriate action. Archiving (docs including templates are available on Global SharePoint).
  • Managing translation service providers.
  • Media monitoring:
  • Preparing monthly media reports, capturing DP World's announcements, thought leadership, press clippings, and competitor news (based on Carma and Signal AI reports) to be distributed to DP World's board of directors.
  • Ad hoc media monitoring for share of voice (using Carma and Signal AI).

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:


  • Bachelor's Degree; Minimum 3 years experience working in media relations or journalism in the UAE
  • Outstanding Arabic and English written and oral skills
  • Indepth knowledge of media relations
  • Proven track record of dealing with the media and running media campaigns
  • Ability to produce clear and concise written material for the media, in English and Arabic
  • Ability to speak in public and conduct presentations
  • Excellent skills in people management, negotiation, networking, planning, research and analysis
  • Outgoing personality and selfconfident, focused and with great attention to detail
  • A team player; proactive and selfmotivated
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Innovative and creative, with sound ethical values
