Finance Manager - ME&A Tax and Compliance


SNC-Lavalin Group is a provider of multi-disciplinary engineering technical services, committed to excellence which combines innovation, imagination and best practice.

The Middle East & Africa (ME&A) Engineering Design sector operates as a fully integrated unit operating across the ME&A region and providing a wide range of services including project management, design & engineering and strategic advisory consultancy services.


A position has arisen to assist the Head of Finance Operations ME&A in delivering a high quality and effective tax reporting and statutory compliance function for ME&A business.

This role will head the tax and compliance function which, with the support of finance operations team and internal tax advisory team, will ensure tax compliance of all ME&A entities, manage tax submissions, planning & budgeting and contribute towards statutory compliance (including internal & external audits and statutory financial statements).

The role will lead the design and implementation of robust processes and controls surrounding above areas to ensure that tax reporting and compliance processes all operate effectively and in accordance with SOPs.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the tax regulatory compliance across the ME&A region, including timely filing of accurate tax and related returns (income tax, WHT, VAT, CountrybyCountry reporting, Transfer Pricing submissions etc);
  • Manage tax assessments, audits and inspections, and own the relationship with internal and external tax consultants;
  • Lead the design and implementation of processes surrounding tax and statutory compliance, maintaining robust reconciliations and documentation to satisfy tax and finance regulatory requirements;
  • Lead the preparation, audit and filing of statutory financial statements of selected entities in the region;
  • Provide advice to the finance and nonfinance business operations on taxrelated queries and implications for new and ongoing client/supplier projects;
  • Manage the tax budgeting/forecasting for internal tax reporting requirements;
  • Manage the team to ensure timely submission of other Statutory and Regulatory returns as they relate to finance including, but not limited to, Government Surveys, Bank Surveys etc;
  • Support the Head of Finance Operations on adhoc initiatives and analysis;
  • Develop strong working relationships with team members and other key stakeholders;
  • Manage subordinates ensuring their career development and coaching.

Technical Competencies

Essential

  • Fully Qualified ACCA/CIMA/ACA/CPA or other recognised Accounting qualification;
  • Minimum 3 years postqualification experience, preferably in the Middle East, with some experience of working in a tax & compliance lead role for a construction/engineering consultancy organisation;
  • Sound knowledge of Middle East tax regulations and requirements;
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Working knowledge of other Microsoft Office tools;
  • High standard of (numerical) presentation skills;
  • Excellent communication in English (both written and oral).
  • Experience of interacting with multiple businesses and finance functions;
  • Experience of working within a multicultural environment;
  • Proven ability to develop strong working relationships and communicate effectively at all levels.

Desirable

  • Working knowledge of JD Edwards, Hyperion Finance Management (HFM) and Oracle.
  • Knowledge of Data Modelling, PowerPivot and PowerBI tools is an advantage.
  • Big 4 experience as a senior associate or above (PwC/EY/KPMG/Deloitte).
  • Grasp over Arabic language will be an added advantage.
