Primary Year Group Lead Key Responsibilities

  • To be a role model to all in all areas; professional conduct, professional teaching and learning practice and professional development.
  • To collaborate with other MLT and SLT members to ensure continuous school improvement and consistent practice.
  • To check planning weekly to ensure they are align with year group curriculum objectives.
  • To ensure the day to day running of Year group is in line with our school vision and aims.
  • To raise attainment and improve teaching and learning in the primary phase of the school in line with the agreed vision set out by the leadership team.
  • To lead and implement initiatives to successfully deliver school improvement priorities.
  • To reflect on data analysis of the phase, with the Head of Primary, Deputy Head of Primary and Assistant Heads of Primary at 3 points throughout the year. In addition, to have suggestions to contribute to action plans ensuring continuous improvement within the phase of the school.
  • To carry out joint learning visits with senior colleagues, and support colleagues to improve their classroom practice.
  • To lead phase meetings, planning meets and CPD sessions with a focus on improving learning and teaching.
  • To create opportunities for peers to observe.
  • To be involved in monitoring through work sampling, planning scrutiny and learning walks.
  • To carry out, alongside other members of the leadership team, family workshops which are held to inform families of the curriculum, updated policies and help with expectations of the year group.
  • To coordinate the role of learning assistants working in their year group; their timetable and their performance management in consultation with the SLT and ExLT.
  • To line manage some teachers and teaching assistants in the year group.
  • To support the transition phases from FS2 into Year 1 and Year 1 into Year 2 and so on
  • To carry out any reasonable requests linked to the job.

LEARNING AND TEACHING
Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils

  • Establish a safe and stimulating environment for pupils, rooted in mutual respect
  • Set goals that stretch and challenge pupils of all backgrounds, abilities and dispositions
  • Demonstrate consistently the positive attitudes, values and behaviour which are expected of pupils
Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils

  • Be accountable for pupils' attainment, progress and outcomes
  • Be aware of pupils' capabilities and their prior knowledge, and plan teaching to build on these
  • Guide pupils to reflect on the progress they have made and their emerging needs
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how pupils learn and how this impacts on teaching
  • Encourage pupils to take a responsible and conscientious attitude to their own work and study
Plan and teach well-structured lessons

  • Impart knowledge and develop understanding through effective use of lesson time
  • Promote a love of learning and children's intellectual curiosity
  • Set homework and plan other outofclass activities to consolidate and extend the knowledge and understanding pupils have acquired
  • Reflect systematically on the effectiveness of lessons and approaches to teaching
  • Contribute to the development of schemes of work and department resources
Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils

  • Know when and how to differentiate appropriately, using approaches which enable pupils to be taught effectively
  • Have a secure understanding of how a range of factors can inhibit pupils' ability to learn, and how best to overcome these
  • Demonstrate an awareness of the physical, social and intellectual development of children, and know how to adapt teaching to support pupils' education at different stages of development
