Benjamin Sutton

I am an energetic and experienced Physical Education teacher with four years of international teaching experience across elementary, middle, and high school. I have successfully implemented a range of PE programs that promote physical strength, enjoyment, and healthy lifestyles amongst students. 

I am committed to maintaining high standards and I believe that creating learning environments with high expectations and positive support can motivate students to become lifelong learners, capable of taking control of their educational pursuits, and achieving beyond their expectations.

I am an enthusiastic, innovative, and an ambitious individual, committed to maintaining high standards of teaching and learning; with 100% of my students achieving grades A*-C for PE in the last 3 academic years, while working extensively with individuals who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. I possess the relevant qualifications with 4 years of experience successfully planning, delivering, and assessing international curriculums for elementary, middle, and high school. This involves both practical and theory-based PE, including sports such as Soccer, Basketball, Athletics and Swimming are among those taught extensively. 

As a professional, I am adaptable and can thrive whilst working independently and collaboratively. I am motivated to continue evolving my practice by implementing new teaching methods, while reflecting continuously on my own practice; often liaising with others to share best practice. I am dynamic in my approaches to teaching and learning and believe that the foundations for success stem from building a strong rapport with students based on trust and professionalism. These foundations are built by implementing behavior management strategies consistently and fairly, while providing appropriate challenge for all attainment levels through differentiation strategies. My approach to teaching aids the development of fundamental and transferrable skills such as leadership, communication and problem-solving through physical education. 

I am currently a PE teacher at Al Mutanabi School in Abu Dhabi which was recently established into a new education model School in the UAE, following an American-based curriculum as a public school. Since being appointed to my current role, I have contributed significantly to the curriculum, developing schemes of work, leading extra-curricular events, and providing several clubs for students in grades 9-13 such as Volleyball, Fitness and Football clubs. I continue to dedicate myself to providing outstanding PE lessons of PE that support the need of all learners. I also plan to build on the current skills I possess as a teacher by completing a PGCE at the University of Sunderland which will further enhance my knowledge and skills. 

I was previously a teacher of Physical and Health Education for the Ministry of Education UAE. Within this role I supported the implementation of a new curriculum, and I developed a structure extra-curricular activity, which included creating links with local sports clubs. Within three years, I was able to provide opportunities for students in a diverse extra-curricular program and successfully established links with multiple elite clubs, including Al Wahda FC and Baniayas FC. This raised the aspirations of pupils and created opportunities for students to pursue their sporting. In addition, I have experience of organizing sports fixtures with local schools, for leagues and cup competitions. I have also supported students on field trips to renowned events such as the Asia Cup and Special Olympic games.
