About Mathieu Savaris:
Experience
Mathieu is an experienced C-level leader and general counsel who has steered global businesses through a wide range of complex legal, compliance and commercial challenges. He is a recognised advocate for diversity and inclusion.
Since February 2021, Mathieu is an independent consultant collaborating with Nextlaw In-House Solutions, the global business of law advisory of Dentons, the world’s largest law firm. He develops integrated solutions, technology and policies for chief legal officers. From May 2021, he is advising Britishvolt, a start-up on track to deliver multibillion £ Gigaplants in the UK, Canada and Japan to manufacture Li-ion batteries for EVs and energy storage, focusing on creating legal and risk policies and tools, negotiating CAPEX construction/equipment agreements and sales offtake supply contracts with car manufacturers.
Prior to his consultancy work, Mathieu held a number of global general counsel and head of legal positions within General Electric’s Energy, Power, Gas, Steam, Nuclear and Grid (Renewables) businesses for nearly two decades. He led an extended team of 100+ professionals with “cradle to grave” responsibility for legal, compliance, governance, contract management, regulatory and policy matters worldwide across energy, infrastructure and industrial sectors. He led and implemented digital transformation projects worldwide.
Mathieu started his career as a commercial litigation attorney in Montréal, Canada, and then as a corporate and finance partner with Rokas, based in Athens, Greece, where he headed the firm’s energy practice and was principal of the firm’s offices in Belgrade, Bucharest, Zagreb, Sofia and Skopje.
He obtained a Business Administration degree at the Maisonneuve College in Montréal, LLB common law and BCL civil law degrees from McGill University in Canada, a Masters in International and European law from the Panthéon-Assas University in Paris and a Greek JD law degree.
Mathieu is admitted as a Barrister in England & Wales, of the Middle Temple, and he is a qualified attorney in Québec, Greece and Spain. He speaks French, English, Greek, Italian, Catalan and Spanish. He is married and has two boys.
