    Description

    A registered professional Medical / Surgical(Orthopaedics) nurse who provides direct patient care andcoordinates patient care-related activities using the scientificprocess of nursing. Nursing care given to paediatric, adolescent,adult and geriatric population.

    DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Demonstrates problemsolving / critical thinking skills ensuring effective functioningof unit routine.
    • Collaborates withmulti-disciplinary team to provide patientcare.
    • Demonstrates organizational skills asteam leader / in-charge nurse.
    • Participates instaff meetings and unit committees /projects.
    • Demonstrates cooperation,coordination and respect among individuals / departments in orderto provide excellent customer service (internal andexternal)
    • Demonstrates cooperation and respectwith the nursing supervisor and provides support in bedmanagement
    • Participates in developing andachieving unit goals
    • Performs additional dutieswhen required
    • Demonstrates responsibility forstore maintenance and capture of charges
    • Participate in inventory and lost chargescount as well as store organization
    • Appropriateuse of the sick leave system
    • Participate inmonthly environmental rounds
    • Responsible forobtaining the required CPD points (15) every year for re-licensure
    • Maintains a safe, hygienic JCI standard unitenvironment.
    • Demonstrates skills in continualassessment of patient, family's physical andpsychological needs and ability to document in line with hospitalstandards
    • Demonstrates skill in co-ordinationand planning of care / clinical pathway, and prioritizing care,based on individual needs. Revises care plan in response to patientneeds
    • Demonstrates knowledge of and the abilityto render care and services based on specific unit specialities,age appropriateness, and patient caredevelopment
    • Performs nursing interventions /procedures in accordance with established standards of care andpolicy and procedures
    • Assists medicalcolleagues with diagnostic therapeuticinterventions
    • Maintains accurate and thoroughdocumentation following established JCIA and hospitalstandards
    • Floats to other areas within thehospital when required
    • Shares knowledge andskills with colleagues and others
    • Maintains asafe environment for patients andstaff
    • Maintains commitment to professionaldevelopment of self through completion of unit competent ices management, utilization of auto-transfusiondevices
    • As Registered Nurse understands theresponsibilities of safe handling, drawing, administratingNarcotic/Controlled Drugs and documentation as directed by policiesand procedures
    • Demonstrates knowledge andclinical expertise of Infection Control issues, reports anddocuments as directed in the Infection Control policies andprocedures.
    • Demonstrates responsibility formaintaining patient medications and refunding to the pharmacy anydiscontinued medications
    • Demonstratesresponsibility for floor stock medications
    • Hasa sense of belonging to the unit, is cooperative with fellow staffmembers, and ready to help out and work overtime whenneeded
    • Work is performed on any shift asrequired
    • Ensures a complete and accuratehandover has been given to the nextshift
    • Maintains clinical and professionalcompetency based on the latest research and established standardsof practice.
    • Has an understanding of currentunit-based PI activities
    • Actively participatesin PI Plan by reporting incidents, customer complaints, medicationerrors, and other KPI events
    • Assesses anddocuments education needs and provides effective and ageappropriate education to patients /families.
    • Participates in ongoing educationalactivities.
    • Maintains mandatory educationalrequirements annually.
    • Contributes toprofessional development ofcolleagues.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • BachelorDegree in Nursing (duration not less than three years)or
    • Diploma in Nursing (not less than threeacademic years in nursing only) or
    • Diploma inNursing and Midwifery (not less than three academic years)
