    JOBSUMMARY
    The CertifiedOccupational Therapy Assistant performs services planned, delegatedand supervised by the Occupational Therapist. Participates in therehabilitative plan of care designed by the Occupational Therapistand physician, and monitored and evaluated by the OccupationalTherapist.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    Graduate from anaccredited Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants program withan Associate s Degree approved by the American Occupational TherapyAssociation.

    Licensed or certified by the state in which theCertified Occupational Therapy Assistant resides or practicesaccording to state requirements, and has received certificationfrom the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy,Inc.(NBCOT).

    PHYSICALDEMANDS

    Requiresmoderately heavy physical exertion on a regular and reoccurringbasis such as extensive driving, assisting patients in transferactivities (wheelchair to bed, to tub, to commodes) and providingsubstantial support to individuals in ambulation therapy.

    Regularlyrequired to use hands and arms. Frequently required to stoop,kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally lift and/or move over 100pounds. Specific vision abilities include close, peripheral, depthperception and ability to adjust focus.

    WORKING CONDITIONS
    General office,health care setting - exposure to infectious disease.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    1.Participates in the ongoing evaluation of the patient s functionalstatus (muscle function, endurance, visual coordination, writtenand verbal communication skills, self-care ability, work capacity,etc.) as delegated by the Occupational Therapist.

    Observes, recordsand reports to the Occupational Therapist and Program Supervisorresponses treatment and any changes in the patient scondition.

    2.

    Treats the patient inaccordance with the care plan after the Occupational Therapistperforms the initial evaluation to establish treatment goals,frequency, duration and specific modalities to be used inaccordance with the physician s orders with the OccupationalTherapist.

    Following treatment program and goals for improvedpatient function as established by the OccupationalTherapist.

    3. Reviews weekly patient sprograms. Contacts the Occupational Therapist directly for patientreports and care as needed, or required by State/Federalguidelines.

    4. Submits appropriate writtenreports of the patient s progress at the designated intervals tothe physician and/or the Occupational Therapist. All notes writtenby the Assistant will be co-signed (if state requires) by thesupervising Occupational Therapist.

    5.Instructs patients regarding occupational therapy proceduresdesigned by the supervising Occupational Therapist.

    6.

    Adheres to all applicable federal, state, local andcompany-maintained standards of care and ethics and policiesconcerned with the practice of occupational therapy and among otherthings, personnel qualifications.


    7.Participates in staff development activities and in in-serviceseducation programs.

    8. Meets productivityand utilization expectations as established by the Company and thefacility.

    9. Completes clinicaldocumentation to include functional goal-setting, progress andtherapeutic approach timely and accurately.


    • Completes administrative/billing documentation timely andaccurately.
    11. Covers more than onefacility as required by the need of the Company.
