    Description

    EssentialResponsibilities

    • Correctly verifies that the properspecimen is being analyzed for the correct patients and that thecorrect test is being performed. Judges the adequacy and qualitiesof specimens submitted for testing.
    • Analyzesclinical laboratory specimens following the standard methods andprocedures approved by the Laboratory Director or designee.Performs quality control procedures to ensure accuracy of clinicaldata.
    • Utilizes test reference ranges (includingneonates, pediatric and adult) to determine reasonableness of testresults. Validates test results through correlation with testparameters (e.g. Hgb/Hct, anion gap, platelet count/smear,dipstick/micro etc.). Confirms testing on all Critical Values toensure accuracy prior to releasing of testresults.
    • Performs routine preventativemaintenance and troubleshooting on assigned instruments andequipment according to established schedule and procedure. Performsand documents instrument function by checking and calibratingspecific lab instruments and documentsdata.
    • Records on instrument logs any repairs,replacement, and maintenance needed of equipment. Releases orreports results per Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures.Trains laboratory assistants on proper techniques/proceduresrelated to clinical laboratory practice. Performs other relatedduties as necessary.
    • SupervisoryResponsibilities: Provides general or direct supervision of LabAssistants and general Clerical Personnel as required according tolab law and regulations. Corporate Compliance Accountability:Consistently supports the precepts of Corporate Compliance andPrinciples of Responsibility by maintaining confidentiality,protecting the assets of the organization, acting with integrity,reporting observed fraud and abuse and complying with applicablestate, federal and local laws and program policies andprocedures.

    Experience

    BasicQualifications:

    • Six months related experiencerequired.

    Education

    • Bachelors Degree * Applicablemilitary experience may be substituted for bachelorsdegree.
    • Baccalaureate degree in Clinical LabSciences or related field.

    License, Certification,Registration

    • ClinicalLaboratory Scientist License (California)

    AdditionalRequirements

    • Ability to read and comprehend simpleinstructions, short correspondence, andmemos.
    • Ability to write simplecorrespondence.
    • Ability to effectively presentinformation in one-on-one and small group situations to customers,clients, and other incumbents of theorganization.
    • Must be willing to work in aLabor Management Partnership environment.
    • Alsorefer to Position Specifications outlined in the appropriatecollective bargaining agreement.

    PreferredQualifications

    • Experience including Hematology,Urinalysis, Chemistry, Blood Bank and Bacteriology experiencepreferred. Computer application experience/proficiencypreferred.
