    BACKGROUND

    • Accountablefor the proactive monitoring, support, maintenance, and ongoinghousekeeping of all Group databases, whether developed internallyor by a third-partyprovider.
    • SubjectMatter Expert for design, maintenance, and support of a range ofdatabases and database technologies and tools to industrystandards, responsible for the operational performance, integrity,and security of thedatabases.
    THEOPPORTUNITY

    Youwill develop, maintain, and ensure adherence to the Group sdatabase operational standards and controls includingmanagement, archiving, backups, recovery,monitoring and alerting, with input into Database TechnologyReferenceArchitectures owned by the IT Architecturefunction.

    Aswell as Installing and upgrading the database server andapplication tools, running validation checks,allocatingsystems storage, and planning futurestorage requirements, and modifying the database structure, asnecessary, from information provided bythe Project Delivery team, third parties and as a result ofproactive healthchecks.


    YourRole

    • Develop,maintain, and ensure adherence to the Group s database operationalstandards and controls including management, archiving, backups,recovery, monitoring and alerting, with input into DatabaseTechnology Reference Architectures owned by the IT Architecturefunction.
    • Assistthe Project Delivery and IT Architecture database design teams;advising on industry best practice, data security, integrity, andoptimising performance, and provide approval on database designfunctionalspecifications.
    • Installand upgrade the database server and application tools, runningvalidation checks, allocating systems storage and planning futurestorage requirements, and modifying the database structure, asnecessary, from information provided by the Project Delivery team,third parties and as a result of proactive healthchecks.
    • Enrolusers and maintain system security ensuring compliance withdatabase vendor licenseagreement.
    • Controland monitor user access to the database, monitoring and optimisingthe performance of the database, planning for backup and recoveryof database information, maintaining archived data, backing up andrestoring databases and contacting database vendor for technicalsupport.
    • Respondto monitoring feedback and manage alerts to minimise disruption toservices, working to agreed rotas covering 24x7x365, meeting agreedOperations Level Agreements (OLAs) and Service Level Agreements(SLAs) asappropriate.
    • Accountablefor the definition, design, implementation, and continuousimprovement of proactive monitoring and alerting of thresholds indatabase efficiency and performance, and as required, undertakingremedialactions.
    • Adhereto Data Architecture and Information Security controls therebysustaining the security and integrity of the data.     • Creatingcomplex query definitions that allow data to be extracted andcommunicated in a controlled and secure manner and guide technicalcolleagues as required on best practice/how to input and extractdata.
    • Providerisk assessment as input to Change process requests for change, andonce authorised, through the change process change, updatingexisting production/livedatabases.
    • Providesecond/third-line incident support and meet the incident servicelevel agreements as advised by the Service Desk and fulfil standardservice requests as communicated by the ServiceDesk.
    • Maintainknowledge of industry standards and best practice to ensure optimalIT services, solutions, and processes across theGroup.
    • Contributeto the continuous improvement of IT processes andprocedures.
    • Respondflexibly to any necessary changes in work priorities and undertakeother duties when required to support the effective operation oftheservice.
    • Ensurethat all information security requirements, including dataprotection, are met in accordance with the Group s policy,procedures, and statutoryrequirements.
    • Ensurethat health and safety requirements are met in accordance with theGroup s policy, procedures, and statutoryrequirements.

    Essential

    • Understandingof structured query language(SQL).
    • Knowledgeof relational database management systems (RDMS) (e.g. MicrosoftSQL or MySQL), object orientated database management systems(OODBMS) and XML database managementsystems.
    • Knowledgeof structured query language (SQL) e.g. SQL/PSM or Transact-SQL.General understanding of distributed computing architectures, e.g.Client-server model, operating systems e.g. Windows or Linux,storage technologies andnetworking.
    • Goodknowledge of routine maintenance, recovery, and handling failoverof adatabase.
    • Experienceof database software, tools and webapplications.
    • Up-to-dateknowledge of technology and the Data ProtectionAct.
    • Abilityto work well in a fast-paced environment, where the technology isconstantlychanging.
    • Experienceof defining and, adherence to development standards tools andtechniques.
    • Typically,the role owner will have experience of one or more of the followingmainstream databases technologies, MS Access, SQL Server, Ingres,Sybase, Progress, MySQL,Solaris
