    STAFF NURSE - CARDIOLOGY

    Aregistered professional Clinic Staff Nurse who provides directpatient care and coordinates patient care-related activities usingthe scientific process of nursing. Nursing care given to Pediatric,adolescent, adult and geriatricpopulation

    DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Demonstratesproblem solving/critical thinking skills ensuring effectivefunctioning of unit routine.
    • Collaborates withmulti-disciplinary team to provide patientcare.
    • Participates in staff meetings and unitcommittees/projects.
    • Participates in developingand achieving unit goals.
    • Participates in theorientation of new staff.
    • Competent toanticipate problems, emergencies and take appropriateactions.
    • Competent to delegate specificduties/nursing care to other team members based on patient needsand staff qualifications.
    • Maintains clinicaland professional competency based on the latest research andestablished standards of practice.
    • Manages andis charge of the unit in the absence of a HeadNurse.
    • Supervises Inventory/ lost chargecounts.
    • Being knowledgeable of policies andprocedure on the unit.
    • Demonstrates respect forauthority, discusses problems appropriately and follows chain ofcommand.
    • Promotes professional and clinicalgrowth of self and staff.
    • Accepts supervisionand benefits from constructivecriticism.
    • Participates in hospital-wide andnursing committees as required.
    • Promotesphysician satisfaction with nursing servicesprovided.
    • Maintains a safe, hygienic JCIstandard unit environment.
    • To be charge nurse/team leader during the shift asassigned.
    • Support the hospital philosophy,mission, goals and objectives.
    • Participates incoordinating and managing nursing care on a dailybasis.
    • Delegates direct patient careresponsibilities directions to staff nurses and HCAs based onpatient acuity and nurse competency.
    • Ensuresdaily unit responsibilities (checking crash cart, refrigerationtemperature check-list, etc.) areassigned.
    • Assigns float nurses according totheir capabilities and experience.
    • Oversees theorientation of new staff members.
    • Recognizesand anticipates problems / needs of unit, staff and patients andprovides intervention as appropriate.
    • Providesdirection to the staff and assists them in the execution of theirresponsibilities.
    • Participates in patient careconferences and unit projects with thegroup.
    • Responds to patient / family concernsand consults other involved services asappropriate.
    • Ensures contact with thephysicians for the purpose of reporting important information orclarifying orders.
    • Ensures the next shiftreceives a complete and pertinent report that facilitatescontinuity of care.
    • Evaluates the quality ofnursing care being given by the staff and provides guidance whenneeded.
    • Supervise staff'sdocumentation and provides guidance whenneeded.
    • Ensures supplies from CSSD and pharmacyare ordered to keep unit stocked at prescribed levels and ensurethat there are no expiry date items in theunit.
    • Acts as a role model for other staffmember and ensures staff maintains professional behavior while onduty.
    • Functions as a preceptor and role modelfor nee and other identified staff.
    • Evaluatesthe progress of new employees and provides feedback to the HeadNurse.
    • Evaluates patient care supplies /equipment and provides feedback to the HeadNurse.
    • Demonstrates skills in continualassessment of patient, family's physical andpsychological needs and ability to document under the JCIAstandards.
    • Demonstrates skill in co-ordinationand planning of care, and prioritizing care, based on individualneeds. Revises care plan as necessary with the scope of JCIAstandards.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of and theability to render care and services based on specific unitspecialities, age appropriateness and the developmental needs ofthe patient.
    • Performs nursinginterventions/procedures in accordance with established standardsof care and policy and procedures.
    • Assistsmedical colleagues with diagnostic therapeuticinterventions.
    • Maintains accurate and thoroughdocumentation following established JCIAstandards.
    • Follow up clinical and PI indicatorsand report to Head Nurse.
    • Shares knowledge andskills with colleagues and others.
    • Maintains asafe environment for patients andstaff.
    • Maintains commitment to professionaldevelopment through completion of the unit competencies i.e. painmanagement, handling of chemotherapeuticagents.
