    Description

    The InternationalPotato Center (CIP) is seeking a research associate in Agronomy toassist the Project Manager in the implementation of the potatoproject: Sustainable Intensification of Potato in Rice basedsystems in Odisha for Increased Productivity and Profitability inOdisha, India.

    Abouttherole:

    TheResearch Associate will work with the project team and otherpartners on the implementation of project activities in the field,collection of research data, publication of research findings, andthat those findings are translated into a form that will enablepractitioners to take new methods and tools to scale.In addition, the scientist will also help withcapacity strengthening efforts linked to building a community ofpractice knowledgeable in potato seed systems, crop management andpost-harvest management. The position requires an experiencedpotato person with good quantitative and writing skills combinedwith an ability to teach complex topics to researchers at differentlevels of expertise and as well it will be an opportunity todevelop publications. The position will bebased in Bhubaneswar, India and report directly to the ProjectManager.

    Keyresponsibilities:

    • Conductdemonstrations on improved production practices related to potatoseed production, plant or soil nutrition, pest and diseasemanagement, mechanization, and watermanagement.
    • Conduct fieldvisits to monitor and collect seed, plant, and soil samples andtesting samples for nutritional deficiencies, diseases, or otherchanges.
    • Work closelywith the project team in developing production practices byintegrating varieties with improved production practices to improvefarmersincome.
    • Providetrainings to farmers, project partners and extension agents onimproved productionpractices.
    • Contribute towriting training materials, technical progress reports and annualreviews and workplans as directed by the projectmanager.
    • Assist theproject manager in administrative tasks and activities related toknowledge management and generating communication outputs for usersoftechnologies.


    Requirements

    Whatare we lookingfor?

    • Masters orhigher degree in Agronomy or any other PlantScience.
    • At least 6 yearsof experience in field work preferably onpotato.
    • Expertise inexperimental design related to field agronomy, data collection,analysis,etc.
    • Demonstratedability to coordinate tasks to meetdeadlines.
    • Experience oftechnical reporting with advance level knowledge of MSoffice
    • Good record ofscientific and technical publications with advance level knowledgeof databasework
    • Goodinterpersonal skills: ability to work in a multi-culturalenvironment with sensitivity and respect fordiversity.
    • Strongunderstanding of integrating gender and other social equityconsiderations into project design anddelivery.
    • Ability toorganize work and write in a clear and concise manner and tocommunicate effectivelyorally.
    • Willing totravel extensively in theregion/state.
    • Advanced writtenand oral communication skills in English and fluent in Hindi.Knowledge of Oriya language will be givenpreference.

    What are we looking for? Masters or higher degree in Agronomy orany other Plant Science. At least 6 years of experience in fieldwork preferably on potato. Willing to travelextensively in the region/state. Advanced written and oralcommunication skills in English and fluent in Hindi. Knowledge ofOriya language will be given preference.
