Holistic Well-being Advisor - Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - NYU Abu Dhabi
Description
Position Summary
UAE Nationals are encouraged to apply
New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint an Hollistic Well-Being Advisor reporting to the Director of Student Success and Well-Being.
The Advisor will build a program that enables students and staff to improve their knowledge of the multiple dimensions of holistic well-being. Under the supervision of the Director of Student Success & Well-Being, The Advisor will identify divisional opportunities for holistic mental, social, and emotional well-being engagement and identify any gaps in holistic well-being support, and work to procure opportunities to fill those gaps. This role will center on building capacity for both students and student affairs staff to equip constituents with a tool-kit for managing low-level mental health issues and crafting an individualized path for their personal growth and development.
This position will partner with different constituencies to better articulate a divisional strategy for holistic well-being and organize events and initiatives that enhance student wellbeing by both directing to existing opportunities and complementing these opportunities by procuring or building new global initiatives. The Advisor will actively collaborate with colleagues in other departments such as Student Success and Well-Being, the Student Health Center, Residential Education, Class Year Experience, Athletics, Spiritual Life and Intercultural Education, and Community Outreach to create programs and training that complement the work being done in these areas, and embedding well-being strategy into existing initiatives in the division. The Advisor will also teach 4-5 health and physical education courses per academic year, and work with student leaders on one on one coaching and mentorship.
Under the supervision of the Director, The Advisor will build a co-curricular program that will introduce students and Student Affairs staff to foundational skills in emotional regulation and resilient self-management, using diverse therapeutic modalities and approaches, aimed at fostering a culture of reflection, compassionate self-awareness, and interdependence within the student community. The Advisor will also develop a training and development program for student leaders who will design a wellbeing plan using a system of interventions for the student community.
The Advisor will partner with other areas of the university to support the operations, planning, and coordination of Student Success and Well-Being programs, including collaboration with finance, operations, and risk management. This role will determine the necessary reporting and assessment tools that track progress for students individually and more broadly within the community.
The Advisor is an active contributor to divisional functional teams and institutional events including admissions events, new student orientation, student leadership training, and more. This role requires regular evening and weekend activities throughout the academic year.
*As per NYUAD nomeculture this position was previously titled Assistant Director, Student Well-being
Background
New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is a central part of NYU's global network, marked by a uniquely international student population (100+ nationalities); a rigorous, liberal arts and science academic program; and a location at the crossroads of the Arab world. We are a highly diverse community that shapes and examines issues of common humanity through multicultural perspectives; recognizes that the breadth of an education here extends far beyond the classroom and the campus; sees students themselves as educators; and recognizes that true engagement with the breadth of our diversity requires curiosity, humility, and engagement with contrasting views and values.
NYUAD Student Affairs Division brings together multiple functional areas within student affairs – including cultural engagement, spiritual life, student involvement, community outreach, career development, athletics, residential education, student conduct, health and well-being, accessibility services, and more – to provide students with the structure, resources, and support to maximize their educational experience and reach their full potential. The Division of Student Affairs plays a crucial role in shaping the out-of-classroom experience for a highly diverse (the vast majority of students from outside the region) residential population of 2000+ undergraduate students.
