    About TheRole

    • Assistant PurchasingManager to manage the daytoday operations of their department. Theycommonly handle a wide range of tasks from sourcing new vendors andnegotiating deals to tracking inventory levels and ensuring thatproducts are delivered on time.
    • AssistantPurchasing Managers is also responsible for managing otheremployees in their department. This might include assigning tasksto clerks or administrative assistants guiding how best to completecertain jobs and even coaching them on how they can advance withinthe company.

    Key Duties andResponsibilities

    • Negotiating with suppliers on pricing terms andconditions of sale.
    • Reviewing bids receivedfrom suppliers for potential purchase orders based on price qualitydelivery terms and other factors.
    • Managinginventory levels of supplies and materials to ensure adequatesupply while minimizing costs.
    • Monitoringcontract compliance and making sure that suppliers adhere tocontractual obligations such as maintaining insurance coverage orproviding timely delivery of products or services.
    • Creating purchase orders and other documentationnecessary to initiate a purchase transaction.
    • Conducting market research to identify potentialsuppliers and evaluate their suitability for specific products orservices.
    • Identifying opportunities for costsavings through strategic sourcing techniques such as offshoreprocurement.
    • Reviewing purchase orders andother documents to ensure that they comply with company policiesand procedures.
    • Recommending changes topurchasing procedures that would improve efficiency or reducecosts.
    • Understand purchasing needs and developstrategies to ensure costeffective procurement of goods andservices.
    • Analyze market trends and researchsuppliers to identify opportunities for cost savings.
    • Negotiate pricing and terms with suppliers taking intoaccount quality delivery and other factors.
    • Prepare and issue purchase orders track deliveries andresolve any discrepancies.
    • Maintain supplierperformance records and conduct regular reviews to assesscompliance with contractual agreements.
    • Manageinventory levels and stock turnover to minimize waste andobsolescence.
    • Develop and implement policiesand procedures related to purchasing.
    • Trainand supervise purchasing staff including buyers andassistants.
    • Stay abreast of new developmentsin the field such as new products prices and deliverymethods.
    • Attend trade shows and conferences tonetwork with potential suppliers.
    • Participatein the development of longterm strategic plans for the procurementfunction.
    • Prepare reports for seniormanagement on the status of pending contracts and majorpurchases.
    • Trains new purchasingstaff.
    • Directs the daily workflow andschedules of the department coordinating staff involved inpurchasing selling and distributing supplies machinery materials orequipment.
    • Conducts performance evaluationsthat are timely and constructive.
    • Handlesdiscipline and termination of employees by companypolicy.

    Experience & EducationalRequirements

    • Bachelorsdegree in business finance or a related field.
    • Masters degree in business or related field
    • CPP or APICS certification
    • Experience managing a team of buyers
    • Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems
    • 35 years of professional experience in purchasing or asimilar role
    • Proven negotiation skills withvendors and suppliers
    • Excellent written andverbal communication skills
    • Strong analyticaland problemsolving skills
    • Highly organizedwith superb attention to detail
